Airconditioning rattle/vibration

Hey guys,

I swear I tried to search, if there's a thread on this I couldn't find it.

My car will occasionally rattle/vibrate when the AC is on as I come to a stop, it will continue to vibrate at the stop with brakes on/off clutch in/out, as soon as I turn the AC off, vibration is gone. I can feel a pulsating vibration in the pedals. RPMs hold steady @ about 1k rpms. I thought maybe motor mounts, I had a poly front mount that I threw on, no change (although this did eliminate the shaking when I turn off the car )

So, if anyone has had anything similar let me know. Does our radiator fan have 3 speeds? It sounds like an old jetta of mine when the fans would turn on. I've sat with the car idling, ac compressor kicks on, radiator fan starts going, but its not the same vibration.

Car:
2005 Evo
72k miles
turbo back exhaust, no other mods.

Found out what it is, the screw holding the fan blade on decided to run away.

This could be my problem too. However, I would like to ask for more input as my problem is a bit different. Its IX 41000 miles. When idling and the AC kicks on, i hear this clunking noise on the front driver side. I cannot pinpoint where its coming from right now, but the clunking is clear when I listened right in front of the front wheel (driver side). Sounds like its coming under the battery and airbox. No other issues except for this noise when at idle and only when the AC kicks in. It disappear when the AC shuts off. I was thinking the same issue becasue when the AC kicks in, the fan kicks in too. What do you think? Assistance needed. Thanks in advance.

Bought mine new and it has done this all along. I believe Mitsu released a TSB about it.

Thanks, do you know what TSB number is this one for IX?

It's not the condenser fan. I pull out the fuse to isolate it and the faint clanking is still there. I notice that when I start it this morning, the noise is not there. Then I use the car . As car idle when I got home, the clanking is in sync when the compressor kicks in but I cannot hear it when I tried to listened close to where the belts / compressor are.

I am 1 payment away from paying off the car - talk about the timing of I hearing this clank noise.

It sounds like maybe part of the problem may be transmission? When my ac is on and I am in neutral and release the clutch I can hear a rattle.

Mine also started making a rattling/vibrating noise right after i installed my ets 3.5 intercooler At 1st i thought it was my exhaust since it felt like it came from right under the car and I even felt it on the pedal at certain times but i got under there and nothing was loose or looked like it was rubbing but by reading all these posts imma go out and check to see if the fmic is rubbing on any of the ac lines... Lets hope thats what it is and not something major

I'm SO happy you posted that!! My VIII does the exact same thing.

I assume it's just a vibe picked up at low idle.

Could I be wrong? Hell yes.

Should I be concerned??
