Is anyone else shifting from 1st to 3rd?

So yah, 2nd gear is fricken crazy... when i drive normally, i usually stay in 2nd gear for about 2-3 seconds. So today i started to skip 2nd and just head on into 3rd!

Is shifting the car properly really that difficult a task?

I find 1st gear the crazy one. If I stay in first gear in traffic and let off the gas, it buckles back and forth like a ***** f. 2nd gear is awesome--smooth and brute speed when you need it. Also, I'm not too fond of shifting in a U-motion.

I do it all the time, take 1st gently to about 4k then shift to third and stay light on the gas. It's my MPG granny mode. Or even take 2nd to 4th, just be light on the throttle and let the torque take up the gear, you dont want to bog or cause low end det. events.

It seems unnatural; but if it works, then it works.

1-2-5

fastest way to get to cruising speed in most towns (about 45mph). 1-3 seems like it would be quite an odd shift motion-wise.

5th to reverse you mean. I hear that's good for gas consumption.

Yup. Heavy on 1 then to 3. First figured this out on 4 speeds behind big engines with 1 to 3, sometimes 1 to 4. Never planned, always in response to upfront traffic.
