yup long as the immobilizer function is disabled in the ecu, any properly cut key will work. this is why although evom is doing a great service to have this info available, it totally makes it a cakewalk for any educated car thief to take your car.

as far as i know you would have to get it reprogrammed at the dealership. At least thats the way nissans, hondas, and acuras work. Never had to do it with my evo yet.

Security through obscurity fails. EvoM is doing nothing wrong and in no way endangering your vehicle.

Also it's rather immoral to lock users out of hardware they own. See costs for programming keys and remotes or the PS3 and Linux. I bought a new remote and shorted pins 1-4 and was able to use the procedure here to avoid paying $80+ for something I can do myself. Oh and cars still get stolen every year, even on vehicles where they can't program keys or remotes without a dealer.

Security needs to be properly implemented in such a way that you can't bypass it by simply stumbling upon something.

See SSL certificates and such if you are still confused about what I mean.

Making your software lock unless the user holds down the "shift" key is security through obscurity.
Making your software lock until the user produces a certificate signed by the manufacturers private key is much more secure and a step in the right direction.

</security rant>

This applies 100% to the topic at hand as well, evom is doing no harm by explaining how these ECUs and vehicles work. Only if you keep secrets from people to create artificial needs for your services, would you not want EvoM to help. For instance Mitsu can't get $80 bux to simply tell the computer to trust a new remote. I see nothing wrong with that. The committed would steal your car anyway... EvoM is telling us non committed folks how to do a few things to our own vehicle.

i dont disagree with you one bit. evo community is one of the most technical group in ALL automotive forum. im simply stating the negative side of posting info such as posting a how-to bypass a security feature that can easily be searched by badies with google. theres two sides of every coin, bro.

I do think you can retain the immobilizer. You'll need the codes from the original evo 8 ecu and drop those into the evo9 ROM. This way the new software matches the existing hardware. Can't confirm this works though, you'd have to try it out.

Hey guys need some help, im litteraly soo frustraded over this dumb evo.

OK This is what ive done so far, i had the Ecu immobilized (Nothing).. even tried swaping the ecu to my friends car and his started right up.

Next swaped the Exhaust CAm angle sensor and nothing (tomorow i will try the intake cam sensor)

Went threw the Entire Engine Harness and found nothing loose

Checked EVERY FUSE in the engine and under dash (Nothing)

Checked timing at the cam gears and crank pulley (Perfect timing)

NOTE: This motor has never been taken apart (shorblock wise), its a original motor that was in my friends evo 9 whom i drove to the house and took the motor out of.

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA????

ONLY think that i seen disconected was there are 3 plugs that are for the ACD Module near the glove box. 2 plugs go into the acd module and 1 blue plug is apart of the chassis (passenger side) harness.

Well that 'blue plug goes no where on the evo 8, while in the evo 9 it plugs into the chassis harness.

you're obviously an itelligent individual since you were able to pull off the swap. so i'm not trying to make you sound stupid... but are you sure its spark that you are missing?

did you connect a spark tester or lick you finger and plug the hole? either way seems to work.

do you have fuel pressure at the rail? often times if the fuel pump isnt turning on the spark will fail too... remove the lower rear seat and listen for the pump to kick on.

are you getting a CEL? if you have evoscan trying pulling the codes from the ecu's also run the actuators and see what ya get...

hope that helps... best of luck... double check the upper left fuse on the interior box... mine was blown and left me stranded for 3 days... i checked it twice before i could see the break in the filament...
