Best Evo to build???
Best Evo to build???
I had an IX for two years that I put 30k into and had to get rid of do to financial reasons. Now that things have settled down and I'm back on track, I want to see about getting another Evo. I'm looking to find one that someone has already put some money into and needs to get rid of, for whatever reason.
I do a lot of drag racing but the car will also be my DD (I think). Looking for a 600 WHP car with a 2.2L and since it might be hard to find exactly what I'm looking for, I want to find out what's the platform to start with is??? At this point, I'm thinking a 2004 RS because it is does not have ACD. Give me your thoughts and feed back.

VIII RS 5speed has a titanium/aluminium alloy turbine wheel but it has a smaller 9.8t housing.
VIII MR RS 5speed has a titanium/aluminium alloy turbine wheel but it has a smaller 9.8t housing.
VIII MR RS 6speed has a titanium/aluminium alloy turbine wheel and has a bigger 10.5t housing.
(I don't think every country got the MR RS)
When pushing the stock turbo to the limits, aren't these titanium wheels less reliable than the standard non RS turbine wheel? So technically I would rather stick with MIVEC and the standard wheel with 10.5t. If you're swapping the turbo, who cares?

Most of the guys I know who track, road race build 8's and 9's. only one or two tens. Ten's seem to be heavy for the track.
Yes, a great car would be an RS if you can find one.
Good Luck

Upon putting bricks under the other front tire to provide resistance, you should be able to spin the other side and get the wheel to knockover/slide the bricks. An open diff would never do that and with one in the air, one on the ground, the air side would spin freely before ever applying much force to the bricked tire. Normally you need some kind of resistance to get the LSD to do it's magic.
We did similar things to Mustangs with various rear diffs but I'm not 100% sure that works with AWD. I assume keeping the rear on the ground forces the front to apply the remaining power to the only other wheel that has less resistance than the rear. For some reason I keep feeling this is not accurate but I'm making an attempt. Perhaps someone with more Evo specific knowledge can chime in since I'm curious.

You should buy an VIII or IX that gives you the most bang for your buck in achieving your final goal. At 600AWHP you're looking at built motor, tranny, transfer case, and rear end. The ideal purchase for those goals IMO would be to buy a shop/ race car that's been built to the extreme you're looking at and then find an interior for it.
I guess that I should rephrase the question I had, I had a IX and was told for drag racing it is best to delete the ACD or getting a car without the ACD. I know what it's going to take to build a 600WHP car, that's not the issue. I've been looking for a 2004 RS and want to find out if there's going to be a better platform to start with?
In my IX MR I had to put a 5 speed tranny in because the 6 is a piece of **** and I blew it up.
