Funny you say that because I used to work in Tier 1 automotives, and after so long of a vehicle being discontinued, the parts are no longer made by Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi used for example, don't know if they actually do this) and are left to the aftermarket suppliers, such as Gates, to make the available parts you would buy at typical auto parts stores.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mitsubishi no longer makes the water pumps and buys them from a Tier 1 supplier and just puts them in a Mitsu box and sells it as a Mitsu part.

Oh, and I have a Gates water pump on my 2.4LR build..

^ Not that many people know that and many of them always jump to say "OEM is better, don't buy anything else it sucks!!"..... I've always used Gates products and have had great success/ no issues.

so, everything mounts up solidly? would you say the mounting point on the water pump was just due to over-engineering? the bracket from the water pump still has another mounting point?

sorry. i've been searching all day.. no pictures, etc. so i'm trying to imagine the mounts.

found a pic. i can't imagine the entire alternator being okay with the one mounting point on the head/IM. what's to keep it from pivoting?

I believe there is a sticky with all this being explained, the alt bracket support that attaches to the pump is not needed. Built block 2.4 guys can't use it and they are putting down way more power and way more strain then most of us.
