Read through the thread and do all the checks the OP did.

 

Did the OP ever comment on a fix? I think I have the same problem but I have no side to side or any play in the wheel when its lifted up. I do need to get the tires/wheels balanced and alignment though.

 

I had this problem for a long time. When I would brake, it would feel like the front suspension was really soft. It turns out it was the tie-rod end-link. At first I didn't notice any play either. It was minor but it makes a huge difference.
