Well Got it back and it feels the same. They did the whole thing over and did the oil sprocket test, it went counter clockwise, so its in Phase. I got it home now and the timing marks on the cam pulleys line up. I didnt take it apart to look at the rest.

There is an instruction in the How to section where they say to set the tension on the balance belt, if the tension was set with slack on the bottom and not on top between the two sprockets would that cause my problem?

Also there are TDC markings on those sprockets, if the oil sprocket was set correctly but these were off would that be it?

The one mechanic who is a regular at my restaurant says he went over to check the Owners work( Owner wanted to work on the car) at his request and said that it all looked good ( he watched the oil sprocket trick). He told me to drive it over the week end not hard and if it still is the same they'll look at it again. It drives fine like I said before with no knock recorded in evo scan under the 3rd gear WOT pull. but it has that vibration and different exhaust note.

So again if the tension on the Balance shaft belt was wrong would it cause these vibrations?

Question for the Experts:

Can I put the Cam gears at TDC and then remove the the oil plug where your suppose to insert the screw driver to hold the balance shaft in place before you remove the timing belt and balance shaft belts and re insert a screw driver to see if the balance shaft is in phase?

The shop insists its in phase, I doubt it and wont drive it till I make sure.

Would this be a good way of finding out with out tearing it all apart?

If it is out of phase I plan to fix it myself and then make them give some money back, they did do a NYS inspection and also put on a new serpentine belt.

BUmp for question above. I got the Oil plug screw out and have the cam sprockets at TDC . I don't have anything else pulled apart so I can not see where the Oil Sprocket is set at. But I can not get the screw driver into the hole more than 3/4 ".

So I'd say its out of Phase and it was really hard to break that oil plug bolt which tells me they never took it out.

Well , I finally had time to work on the car and the front balance shaft was not in time and was out of phase. They did not do the screw driver in the oil plug step.

All is good now.

Thanks for the help.

I get this on the cars I tune once a while. Typically from proletariat who did their own cam install.
Made a video of the last one. For future reference.

Nice Video, Wish I had this to show them from the get go. I explained it to them but I think they just saw the mark at TDC and figured its cool.

Oh Well lets see if they give me any money back after I had to redo their shoddy work.
