FWIW I had a minor front collision that did not damage any structure or the radiator. It needed a hood, bumper, crash beam, IC, piping and the associated bits. The estimate came out to over $4000 using new parts from Mitsubishi. I have an IX though which is probably a little more expensive. However don't be surprised if it costs an arm and a leg to get it fixed.

Be especially careful when getting the frame straightened. Make sure its done by a reputable shop. You'll also need to check that none of the suspension components are damaged. In general parts are VERY expensive for this car. I could probably be done on the cheap buying used but its going to take a lot of time and effort to get it done. You gotta wonder why the guy you bought it from didn't fix it...

Good for him the title is clean, not so good for the next person that buys it and doesn't know the history.

You have around $3k in just headlights. I hate to be the only one but I think that was a bad buy.

I had a minor front end collision in my 03 Evo, the body shop had to replace the front right headlight assembly at around $1400 and everything else was just a repaint (They saved my old bumper and I had a tiny bend on my right fender which was easily straightened out) and total parts and labor was around $4500. I see a lot of money in your future.

That is also brand new parts, from Mitsubishi at list price. If he searches around and is patient he can find used parts in part-outs, then just take them all to the shop and have them perform the labor. Also if he needs any new parts he can source them easily from one of many vendors at 20% or even more off of list and not have to pay the shop mark-up.

If he fixes it properly, and is patient, then it is a very good buy. If he just drops it off at a body shop, has them fix it, them buy the parts, etc... then of course he would be in a losing situation. I'm pretty sure that is not what the OP is planning however.

If you don't already know about it:

http://car-part.com/

Search engine for salvage yards. Alot of parts are listed by color. You can call to verify condition to ensure you won't need to repaint. I've bought a red fender off there for my 2g eclipse when it got backed into and while it wasn't perfect, getting it fixed for under $150 shipped was nice. Also got 2 stock evo wheels using it.

I will go against the grain and say there are better deals and this wasn't a very good buy. It has low miles, sure, but the likelyhood is that the car was beat on when it was driven. That low of miles meant it could have just been a track car.

I hope you know that the only reason the car isn't salvaged / dirty titled is that the person either didn't claim it to their insurance company or didn't have insurance / sufficient insurance on the car.

Sure, 33k miles isn't very high, but to pull a repair like that AND pulling a frame? That's going to be a lot more than a 5k job
