Evo buying questions

Hey guys I'm currently shopping for vehicles and i've always been an american muscle type of guy however, I've always appreciated the Evo... I'm a bit nervous about buying an Evo. I've been reading an awful lot about how weak the clutch and the transfer case is. Most of the Evo's i've been looking at have already had the clutch replaced but some haven't. But the real question is how weak is the t case? If I were to purchase a higher mileage car say 70-100k. And I were to mod the car to around 400 at the wheels, what would be the likelihood of it blowing up? As for my driving habits...There would never be any clutch dumps. And I usually drive pretty slow. Occasional aggressive accelerating but granny shifts. What exactly is it that puts strain on the t case? Sorry if this post seems silly, and I have searched just haven't gotten quite the answer I'm looking for. Thanks guys

Corey

I have 25k on my stock clutch right now. 85k on the car. I drive my car like I stole it each and every day. Just don't hard launch it and you should be fine.

What kills the t-case is people hard launch an awd car that doesn't burn out like other cars. All it does is grip and so if you throw a bunch of power at a drive line that is slack then you'll snap stuff.

Thanks for the confidence booster Dmoney

Demon, thanks for the post, some good info, pretty basic but important stuff. I will throughly inspect a vehicle before I purchase it, compression, leak down tests etc. Just mainly concerned about the structural integrity of the rear.
