Ok my budget is weak, but theres proof good deals can be had especially when you have cash in hand, I've verified it with plenty of guys on the forum... NOW!

The question is, how to go about buying a used EVO with under $14,000 bucks without getting screwed into a **** box.

-I am willing to travel, but this means I can not look at the car my self. How do I make sure a car is koser if I can't be there to see it and take it somewhere my self?

-Carfax? It tells some of the story but not all of it, if I find a clean title and one owner car how good of a sign is that?

-What are tell tale signs a car has been beat or modded? I always figured looking at a stock heat shield was a really good sign, especially if it has stock bolts... same with the exhaust.

-I was told to have a compression test and leak down done. I can have someone take digi cam pics of this being done one cylinder at a time but how much does this tell me?

-I've found a good amount of 03 and 04 EVO VIII's and RS's that have the faded stock Brembos... that pink ish faded paint... is this a good sign or a sign of neglect because they didn't take care of it?

DEALERSHIPS!

-When I call the dealership I first ask for a rock bottom cash price, I tell em that I'm not going to put up with **** and I am very stern when I talk to them. Sales manager only, none of these re-rees asking me if I'm excited about their winter sales event...

What should I ask of them?

! Should I ask them to take it to a Mitsubishi dealership and have the dealership do a leak down, compression test?

! How much of a story will it tell if they take it to the Mitsu dealer and drain the fluids to check for metal shavings and drive it for any abnormal whines, grinds or slipping/bad clutch? and then I can get the report by calling the Mitsu dealer my self or have them fax me their findings?

I basically would really appreciate it if I could get a to do/make sure of this list because I will have to either fly out somewhere and drive the car home, or have someone drive me... I don't want to end up with a **** box. I can deal with higher miles for my budget if it's taken care of but I need help with my specific situation and how to go about it. I am limited budget wise, which limits the luxury of **** being close.

Thanks

no matter what you do if you buy it from a dealer do not opt for any of their extended warranty packages...that's all nonsense

the reality is you'll never really know what you'll be getting

ultimately you want to find a car privately and hopefully there will be a respectable evo shop in the owners area...pay to have it checked out (if the owner says he will not do that, just walk away) if the oblige then pay the shop directly and have them look over the car

You must be careful because I have been cheated! I paid almost $ 21,000 for the Evo 05 with a broken transfercase, suspension and the car has 2 colors!! and they told me then everything works good!!!!! it was one year ago!!

I bought mine from a honda dealership and they assured me nothing was wrong. When it arrived it had a slipping clutch. Make sure you check it out.
