idle From Hell
I had the exact same symptoms as you, except I'm on speed density, so no MAF to check. I followed everyone's advice to find the solution to the annoying problem. Like you here's what I tried:
- check vacuum hoses
- replaced IAC valve
- reset the ECU by unhooking the battery
Finally, I changed the Camshaft position sensor (OEM part# MD327107).
As soon as I changed it, I let the ECU "re-learn" the idle, and went for a drive. The dreaded engine stumble and die when approaching to a stop on neutral was fixed. From time to time, the idle will dip below 500 rpm, but it quickly compensates and recover. I believe it's fixed, but time will tell. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and will update the thread as I drive more.

Have you checked the front O2 sensor? My car had a similar problem and turned out to be the sensor.
An easy way I found to check this is take off the spark plug cover and disconnect the plug that goes to the front O2.
Now take your car for a small drive and see if it fixes the problem.

(Your gas light is on, some cars dont like to idle when low on gas)
I'm having this same issue as well and just as I noticed that I'm running rich my check engine light came on. My evo did this exact thing but then adjusted itself without having to touch the gas or anything... figured its my MAF...its wonderful.
Can anyone else help me with this before I pull the battery on it again as a quick fix? I know the engine light will come back on eventually but i dont have a OBD2-ish reader to look and clear the code. Also need to fix my idle to at least 1300rpm's as well.
