Weight

Most guys can get 2/3 of the way to 80lbs of weight savings by getting rid of their beer gut. One of the funniest images is of a guy who weighs 275 and spends $2000 for lighter components. Bally's costs less than a flywheel and an exhaust.

I agree that people are too quick to say the RS sucks and so forth. All they're doing is bashing the hopes of people (like me) who look forward to affording a 26K Evo.

I probably would take a regular Evo if I could...I don't like the black door handles, but the black mirrors and no wing is ok with me.

Like I've said before on this topic, any Evo is a good Evo.

An FQ-300 is moot 'cause people would mod the car anyway and there goes the bonus of more power with warranty. The AWD that the rest of the world gets is just more stuff to break and most likely not necessary for what 99% of us use our cars for.

I think if for nothing else, everyone should hail the RS as the reason current owners will shortly have a front LSD

Be happy. I can't wait to get my white RS!

I do not think the RS will be that much faster. It is a car that Mitsu brought over to be purchased by racers (SCCA) or to be fully built by race teams. My 03 EVO with a host of HKS goodies is faster than a stock RS anyway. Now will RS with the same goodies be faster than mine (maybe) but it is all good. Thank you MItsu!!

I think more to the point that Mitsi wanted to drop the evo into a different price bracket. I think few would argue that 80lbs and a front lsd suddenly makes it the ultimate track weapon. Its more that dropping 4 to 5 grand off the pricetag puts the evo that much more in range of a young target audience: Those of us that don't make huge bucks but still car enthusiasts. I'm not sure, but from what I've read it seems that the UK has always had much more of a performance car market than we've had in the states. It only makes sense that Mitsi would put out a beefed up more expensive version there, and give us less expensive version here just based off the marketing. As much as it sucks not getting the MR here, I'd rather that the company does well enough that they can keep offering performance vehicles in the states period.

My only slightly informed two cents.

The last thing I am worried about is a RS outperforming mine. I would like the LSD though.

Oh yeah, PLEASE don't refer to any Evo as a "type r". That's just dumb.

What would they do?
-Try to drag race a 4wd car.
-destroy clutches and other various driveline components trying to beat mustangs.
-mount larger wheels that weigh twice what the OEM Enkei's weigh
-add ridiculous graphics to the vehicle

All that stuff is already being done quite regularly according to the posts on this board!
You'd be suprised how many grown men (A) Drag race EVO's (B) Destroy a clutch (B) Mount 19's on their EVO's (C) Add ridiculously large graphics and stickers to their cars.

It's not just the kids doing this stuff. Plus, many 18 year olds already have EVO's and it's not that bad now, so I don't see it happening soon even if the RS comes so cheap.

The RS won't exactly fall into kids' hands either seeing as how it will be EXTREMELY limited in production.

The Type R suspension is completely deferent in the back for the first versions (DC2) and the new Type R (DC5) uses forged components to the steel of the Type S. The Evo RS has an LSD. Ok, that will help you for autocross. But lets look at the facts.
Same supsension as normal Evos
Same hp as normal Evos
No Big Wing
The wing does help at higher speeds. Considering how much time I spend above 90, I'll take it. As for the LSD, if I need it, I'll go buy it. Also, the wings on the Type R's are functional, for both the DC5 and DC2.
The RS is not a Type R, it is a stripped Evo that is not worthy of any comparison to the Type R.
I agree with these statements. The Type R philosophy just isn't stripping the car (or making it lighter), it's about revamping the car with more power and a better suspension. There are small things done to the car that makes it impossible for other models to mimick (eg- the chassis reinforcements on the DC2 type R).

I would, however, take the MR over my car.

Best post in the thread! Which leads me to believe:

1) Those of you guys that think you'll be able to log on to an e-junkyard in a couple of years and get a front LSD from a wrecked RS for your cars are nuts. Hopefully, they'll be available from the dealer in a decent quantity, because they'll be worth their weight in gold if not!

2) If you want an RS, find a cool dealership that won't mark it up and get on the waiting list yesterday. Although there are a lot of Evos still on lots, don't expect to be able to just walk in off the street, see an RS on the lot, and get it for sticker or less.

After driving the STI, I can honestly say I don't want a 6 speed. Too much shifting for everyday driving.
