Straight line at 140, yes, it will feel no different.

But in a fast (100+) sweeper at the limit there's a difference.

Thoughts on RS...

Here are some thoughts...

1. Some of you thought calling the RS a "type-R" was an insult to the Evo, some of you thought it was an insult to the true "type-R" legend. It is true that a type-R model includes performance enhancements, and all the RS has in that area is a front LSD. But you have to remember that the Evo is already pretty radical. How much stiffer did you want the suspension? As for horsepower, I think most people are forgetting a few things...which leads me to...

2. 271 hp is what Mitsu currently knows how to make and still meet EPA emmisions. Look, if they knew how to make 300hp, ALL Evo's would get 300hp -Right? Keep in mind that just because you can increase the power so easily in your garage, doesn't mean it's easy for the OEM. Further, for those of you clamouring for the FQ300, FQ330, etc. my understanding is that these power figures are achieved by modifying the car after emissions cert...in the UK. That isn't any different that what you can do on your own. Of course, in the case of the FQ it would be warrantied by Mitsubishi...LOL

3. A 'Type-R' model has always included an increase in cost. We are getting a significant decrease. Any way you cut it, the difference will be at LEAST $2000. You get alot of equipment for that $2k if you step up to the standard model. But if it's eqquipment you don't really want (like the ABS) it's not such a good deal.

4. Lastly, I'd like to remind everyone that this model exists...and has existed for several generations in good old Nihon. This isn't something they thought up when they heard you complaining that the Evo wasn't available with a SMT. They are giving us more of the product line that wasn't available at all 12 mo ago. Not only that, but we can get it without a wing, and in Red...which is something that the boys in the east CANT get.

Wow, you guys are acting like kids.

"Screw the RS"
"It's not worth it, with a few mods, my Evo will be faster than an RS"
"I want an MR"
"I want an FQ-300"

It's so pointless for you guys to act like this. The thread starts off asking why so many people hate the RS, and the majority of the responses are "Screw the RS!"

What the hell does RS stand for? Rally Spec? How many are they saying they are bring over? Like 700? The mirrors and door handles are left unpainted for a reason. It isn't for weight reduction, it's for a reduction in production cost. Why does the Lancer ES have unpainted door handles and mirrors, but the OZ has them....Think that is for weight reduction?

The RS is designed for what the RS is designed for. They didn't make it to outperform the Evo 8 that we have (which is not a GSR, and I am happy about that). If I remember correctly, the Evo RS started more or less out of homolgation requirements, but that might be incorrect.

It's an Evo with weight reduction and high dollar part omition. It isn't improved components, never has been. I am sure there are a lot of differences between the Type R suspension and the GS-R suspension, but do you really need a better performing suspension on the Evo for street use? Do you really expect to see increased power and increased performance with a lower price tag? Let me go buy a Type R for $3,000 less than a GS-R from the same year, in the same condition.....What do you mean I can't do that?

You all realize that it took us over a decade to even get ONE Evo model in to the US, right? A few more Evos and a better parts following won't hurt us.

Just let it go.

Somewhere I read that the MR will be offered at least in Japan in GSR and RS trim. I want the latter

I'm sure when the MR does come here, there will be plenty of whining about how it lacks an SMT and electric seat warmers.

Let's face it, no car will ever be better than the 2003's

Most hilarious quote of the thread:
mojo- "I can lose that 80 something pounds off my evo easy"

really? please let me know how that works out for you

On a serious note, have you guys noticed all the sweet RS pics on the mitsubishi press release website. you need press credentials to get the high res...anyone have them?

actually it would be very easy to lose many lbs. on the evo, getting a smaller battery and losing the spare is a good way to start, and hey, we still got our ac and cd player

That is correct. I couldn't have said it better myself. All the cry babies need to stop crying because the RS is coming our way and there is nothing you can do to stop it. I for one am very happy about the RS. I think it is really cool. Who knows, I may trade my current Evo for a RS just to laugh at all the haters hating my ride...

Actually, I am about ready to close this thread as it is getting rather boring hearing the same thing over and over.... Evo owners bashing Evos. I don't go for that.
