Why ya RS hatin' ??
Why ya RS hatin' ??
I can't understand why the people that have 2003 models are SO angry about the 2004 RS.
Personally, I've always thought the 'type-R' philosophy was the way things should be...for ME!...but I've never thought it was for everyone.
Look angry 03' owners, no one is claiming the RS will be a big performance increase...but the prospect of getting just as much performance for 26-27K is awesome!
If HID's and ABS...and power ashtrays are important to you, great! Mitsubishi offers you the GSR. If you want a roll up window, no sound deadening, 'type-R' model, the RS is coming.
But at the end of the day, the are all Evo's and we are damn lucky
is bringing them here.
I would never try to convince someone that the RS is the only way to go. So what's up with everyone that has an 03 GSR preaching about how only an idiot would buy an RS, blah, blah blah.
Peace.

Only thing I want from the RS is the front LSD. I can lose that 80 something pounds off my evo easy. The more performance they bring the better imo. I like the look without the wing but that is what makes the car feel rock solid at 100+. I wouldn't give it up just for the weight savings.
Who's hating
Who's hating
I think you are missing the point that some of us are trying to make. We would like more options like the JDM Evo's not a stripped down version of what we already have. We want AYC,ACD,front LSD.
I don't want AYC and ACD. Read the UK Evo boards, they have AYC/ACD problems like we're have clutch problems. I'll take a front LSD though. There will be a few wrecked RS's by next fall, and I'm sure the diff will be available through the dealer. The RS is cool, but I like my power ashtrays. My Evo is perfect!
I don't think anyone's "hating" on the RS... It just seems that in order to strip it down, they left out some things people would consider essential. Personally, HIDs are much more than "bling". I can't imagine driving another car without excellent lights. I wouldn't care if my Evo didn't have power windows, sunroof, etc. The biggest omission from our cars (as noted above) is the lack of a front LSD (which I will try to retrofit from an RS later). I think it's great that the RS is coming. My only fear is that it becomes more attainable to the masses in the way a Mustang 5.0 was in the early 90s. While I think it's great that an 18-year old can buy an Evo, there is a lot of experience required in such a powerful car...

I don't think things are really going to get much worse if more 18 year olds can afford the Evo.
What would they do?
-Try to drag race a 4wd car.
-destroy clutches and other various driveline components trying to beat mustangs.
-mount larger wheels that weigh twice what the OEM Enkei's weigh
-add ridiculous graphics to the vehicle
All that stuff is already being done quite regularly according to the posts on this board!

i think most people were looking for more power vs a slight weight loss....... the RS evo will barely beat a stock regular evo since they have the same hp.
Look at the GT3 porsche.... they stripped it down alittle, but added a bunch of hp (the 380 from the factory is way underrated).... the RS needed 300+hp
I am all for a slightly more expensive higher hp, evo viii.

The RS is a serious let down. There are no hp gains and the car is stripped more than a Hyndi Accent. I am not impressed. The RS is not the Type R of the Evos. The Type R (DC2) is a 195hp car to the 170 of the GSRs. The new RSX (Integra - DC5) is 200 hp for the Type S and 220 for the Type R. Type R = more power and handling. The Type R suspension is completely deferent in the back for the first versions (DC2) and the new Type R (DC5) uses forged components to the steel of the Type S. The Evo RS has an LSD. Ok, that will help you for autocross. But lets look at the facts.
Same supsension as normal Evos
Same hp as normal Evos
No Big Wing
The wing does help at higher speeds. Considering how much time I spend above 90, I'll take it. As for the LSD, if I need it, I'll go buy it. Also, the wings on the Type R's are functional, for both the DC5 and DC2.
The RS is not a Type R, it is a stripped Evo that is not worthy of any comparison to the Type R.

I would much rather have gotten the FQ-300.300hp and a warranty would be much nicer than stripped and ugly, just my opinion. Why not paint the door handles and mirrors. You can't tell me it's a weight thing.
I really like the RS. I have always liked stripped out race cars such as Cobra R, Integra Type R, etc....
Stripped out race cars aren't for everyone.
I am just happy Mitsdubishi didn't build a automatic Evo 8 with leather, chromed wheels, and a big nerdy navigation thingy in it.
At least Mitsubishi is staying true to what the Evo is all about. I give it a definante thumbs up!

my issue with it is the guys that want to buy one, and then paint the mirrors, add AC and **** like that...
personally i'd never buy one, unless it came with a serious performance advantage... 80lbs does not equate to huge perf increases...
it's a track car, simple as that... if you are buying one for the street, you should have your head checked...
