HKS intake filter replacement

I'm running the HKS RS intake with the metal intake pipe, 200mm mushroom, and stock maf in my 8 at the moment. This setup has been in the car since i bought about 3 years ago. After reading quite a bit about the filtering capabilities of the HKS filter elements and having to change it every half a year or so, it's about time to change out the filter element again. Ive been thinking about swapping out to a different type of cone filter for a while now to avoid the hassle of buying a new filter element every time and also get something that filters better. The only problem I have with doing this is finding a cone filter that will actually fit in there. The space in the engine bay for the air filter is so cramped that it seems like nothing will fit in there besides the HKS mushroom (which barely fits in there). Has anyone attempted to try this or have any recommendations? If this isnt possible, then i guess its back to the HKS filters for now. I've been running the yellow 2 layer filters the whole time, but whats input on the green ones because they're supposed to filter better. I know in the past, the green ones were supposed to be garbage and fall apart after a while.

To be honest it might be in your best interest to completely replace your intake set up with something better in the long run. I know there are other filters that they sell on ebay/lancershop that can replace the mushroom filter, but again you'll run into the issue of them not filtering as well as other set ups.

Any change from the HKS Mushroom intake filter will result in a power loss. I have tested many intakes on my Evo’s and the HKS always made the same power. I had the APEXi power intake filter and while it was very nice it hurt power, the HKS unit flows the best.
