hmm.. just checked the oil level..

Seemed kinda low.. falls under the line for the "good" portion.
Isn't this odd for a new car? I think I should buy some Mobil1 and top it off tomorrow..

Where was the oil level at when you guys first got your cars?

About a half quart disappeared between the time I picked mine up and the first oil change. From what I've seen on here, it's not that uncommon of an occurrence.

I dunno, I'm thinking the dealer underfilled it. It has some in it but its just not at the "good" level. Is it really bad to drive around like that?

As long as it's not below the lower notch, you're OK. Fill to second notch so you have a reference point to monitor from.

Mine was 1/4" above the 'full' mark, so I drained it. Driving with more than full isn't good either.

It's slightly under the lower notch... I drove it home, about 38 miles.

Fill it up to the top mark and note how much oil is required to do so. Call the dealer and let them know. Insist on bringing it in so that you have documentation in case of complications down the road. I wouldn't drive anyware if you have to put a significant amount of oil in to bring it to the proper level.

Do you think that drive home could have done any damage to the car? I didnt notice any noises or problems

I know it's a brand new car so paranoia may be setting in. I would be more concerened about bird droppings. Top it off and you should be fine. I would monitor the level at least every time you put gas in. If you are using more than a quart every 2,000 miles I would bring this to your dealers attention immediately.

At my first oil change my car took 4.5qts in my car. I checked it about 1,000 miles later and I was a little less than 1/2qt low so I topped it off. At my 2nd oil change it took 4.8qts and It hasen't used one drop of oil since. wierd?

My oil level dropped by 1/2 qt after 1300 miles.
I assume this has all to do with the rings during break-in period...

Ideally, oil consumption will drop over time as the rings fully seat against the cylinder walls. Also driving style will greatly influence the rate of oil consumption. Full boost and high revs will use more.
