Fuel Economy
Just filled up for the 1st time and my fuel economy is horrible.
177 miles on 11.294 gallons = 15.67 MPG .... I do admit I have been in the boost a bit but 15mpg is ridiculous....
My EVO has a little over 4k miles.
Anyone think I should reset my ECU ? Will this cause my radio to lock out ?
Maybe the ECU learned some bad habits from the original owner ?

Michael,
Glad to see another ex-s2000 owner. First, this car is much worse on gas than the s2k. I would recommend you get a turboback exhaust to help your highway mileage. Unfortunately, city mpg will go down if you beat on it. I highly recommend the buschur turboback exhaust with the magnaflow option. It is just a little louder than stock on the freeway, and has a nice deep tone around town. Besides they have a great sale going on now. Get the JDM option with the burned look, looks pretty good imo. Also, check your tire pressure. By doing all these things I went from 260 miles to the tank to about 300! Also, you want to get some sort of boost controller and boost guage if you decide with a turboback system to prevent spiking.
Good luck!

My mileage seems alot better on this tank. I am at about 140 miles on half a tank. I guess maybe staying off the boost A LITTLE and staying CLOSER to the speed limit on the highway makes a difference.
I also reset the ECU (by pulling fuse #8). I wonder if this also contrubutes to the better gas mileage ?
What exactly does resetting the ECU do ? Open loop values get reset ?

I would expect, after the new wore off and one could stay out of the boost more than in, real world driving should yield 2x mpg. I've looked at the STi rated 18/24 and the Evo rated 18/26. I presume the Evo is better highway because of gearing and also because of 2.0 liter instead of 2.5 liter.
I'll be using a coin to choose between the two. I don't think one can lose either way though.

This fill up is doing ALOT better. I am at about 140 miles on a HALF TANK.
I have been TRYING to drive a little more conservatively and have also reset the ECU.

In any car, you are going to experience horrible fuel economy under WOT, unless it's a turbodiesel
But for normal driving, the Evo isn't that bad, as long as you stay out of boost.
But remember, high performance economy cars = oxymoron

If I drive a little more spiritedly I get 18-19 mpg
If I drive hard I get about 15-18 mpg
The EVO is not an economy car... My '96 Integra GSR with JR supercharger would still get 30+ mpg in the highway!
The WRX got about 2-3 mpg more than the EVO, but there again, the EVO is a lot more powerful (and fun than the WRX)
