REALLY BAD news for U.S. spec EVO.
This forum is really completely useless. Rumors are always a bad thing. No matter what they happen to be about.
THE EVOLUTION WILL COME. As long as
uses the same unibody and engine block everything will be fine or are you all forgetting the ******* plethora of aftermarket parts for this car.

FYI if the engine is detuned there IS a chance that many aftermarket parts might not fit. For example the WRX in Japan has 250hp (just regular WRX not STi), and the same model here gets 227hp. ok that's detuned. Well many regular 250hp WRX parts won't fit on US-spec 227hp WRX engine (both EJ20 but there are some differences made to detune). So you can't really say aftermarket parts isn't a problem (of course intake/exhaust etc. will definitely be compatible, but engine internal parts could be altered)
So before you know it, maybe the detuned EVO that we're going to get might have a 4G63 that's filled with technology from Evo 6 not Evo 7..... which could be bad.
I have said this before that they are speculating with expanding the Evo family to the EK wagon and Evo Wagon by standardising the GTA engine. A world launch seems more and more evident. This news is good and bad...which ever way you take it. But regardless guys, its still going to be a performance car right so there's no need to whinge. Save your money for the mods and make it unique. Best of Luck guys...
As for the lucky few who already own one....what can I say we own you all.
Cheers

I am a TRUE Evo fan. That means I don't want my Evo messed with other then what is needed in order to pass the regulations of this counrty. Anything other then that is NOT acceptable. I am not a fan of the car because it says Evolution on it. I am a fan because it IS an Evolution. If no TRUE Evo comes to North America, then I think I'll buy a Mazda MP3, tune it and turbo charge it and use that for my driving fix until I can figure out a way to bring a REAL Evo into the country.
Hey Claudius, want to sell your car?

Get mechanical diffs. Detuned engine? Just tune it back up (you will eventually do it anyway). Recaros? Just go buy some, in fact now you can choose from a wider range. Suspension? After 6 months, you will want to get upgraded stuff.
I really like my car but if I would do it all again I would get an RS and save the money for tuning.

A detuned engine is not a handicapp. If the motor is tuned to under 250HP I will not be crying. All I need to see is a 4G63 under the hood with the AWD tranny.
A detuned engine just makes it so much easier to extract more power. I own a 98 Eclipse GS-T that came with a 4G63 with only 210 flywheel horsepower. With the right parts and tuning knowledge, I eeked out 340HP and 328ftlb of torque to the wheels on pump gas @ 21psi. That equates to around 400 horsepower to the flywheel.
4G63 = One of the very few motors I know that can handle a hundred horsepower per cylinder from the factory. JZA-Supra 3.0 are awesome also.

Evolution Se7en,
I don't know about the US but the Evo is not popular here because of the Brembos or Recaros or its suspension. In fact, most of the Evos I have seen have at least one of these things uprated.
The Evo is popular because of its tuning potential, something which the Lancer does not have. Maybe when you get an Evo you will understand

I still say that this kind of sucks I think me and everyone else was a expecting something closer to the real evo not a lancer with a turbo in it. Only thing I hope for is the same engine as the evo and awd.
