This really won't affect the actual ethanol industry itself at all. As long as the federal government continues to mandate the 10% blend it will remain. As long as CBOT ethanol continues to trade far enough below RBOB (gasoline) then it will still be financially beneficial for blenders and retailers to continue selling E85.
The real issue will be the price spread, which this legislation will affect, and if it remains a financially good alternative to gasoline to the general public who drive flex fuel vehicles. Like anything else, if there is a demand, and there is a profit available, it will continue to be sold.

Good news for the rest of America.
Ethanol Subsidies = envirowhackjob-stupidity leveraged by crooked/unethical business interest and bought-and-paid-for law-sellers to make money/get reelected to the detriment of the environment AND the poor.
Ethanol sucks, it drives up the cost of food while increasing CO2 output. The only ACTUAL benefit it provides to anyone other then corn growers/processers and their law sellers is making people's cars faster.

So much misinformation and misguided copy-paste mentality in this thread.
I wonder if in 100 years society will look back and wonder why we used non-renewable resources for our Fuel.
btw, I'm not tieing that to Ethanol at all, just a general reply to your reply.

This ^ Yeah, not usually a good idea to use up all of the stuff that you can't make more of.
For the most part ethanol producers takes corn out of the animal feed supply market (yellow corn #2 to be exact), but in return takes the by-product, called distillers grains, and sells it to the feed yards at a discount to corn. This is really a win-win for both the ethanol producer and the animal feeders.
Alternative fuel is never a bad thing. I don't use e85 now but I do like having the option. If the price of e85 dropped to make it cost efficient in a dd I think it would have took off 10 fold. I was ready to switch but not sure again.
I would love to set up a camera and see people's reactions when the price jumpes by $0.45 per gallon, overnight..... Would be AWESOME!
And as a taxpayer, I would personally walk up and thank each and every one of them for no longer sending my taxdollar to lubricate the well oiled cash burning machine that is farm/corn subsidies.
Assuming this passes. And even if it doesnt, this sets a president that America no longer has the stomache for subsidizing fuel sales.
