views on evo in USA and UK
there is a lot bigger auto competition in us vs other countries. we got the v8 which were born and bred in the us, we got the older v8 ( hot rods), we got the fast imports, we got the slow imports trying to be fast, we got the european cars, we got the compact domestics trying to be fast, so you get the idea...there is a lot of things going on and people follow different routes and offcourse everyone has their rival, and evos have a lot of them becasue it has been proven to be a bad *** car for the money.

This. Who cares what schmucks on youtube think exactly?
Would be interesting to see the age break down on owners in the UK as compared to this forum... my guess would be older as the general owners.. price may play a part---but would answer you basic question..With owners here being younger come the "hater" mentality and all the issues..
I just have to add I'm sure a bit of racism is involved. A lot of red necks get defencive when an import beats a V8 beacuse its like an asian beating an american. Get over it V8s are cool and imports are cool too. I want both
well I got both but my V8 is **** lol

It's kind of funny I stumbled on this thread, because I agree with many of the previous posts. Everyone has something dumb to say. I have a dsm with basic mods (16g, 20psi, fmic, 3 in. exhaust, ported evo3 mani, you get the ideer) and it moves decent for what it is. I run a boost gauge on the a-pillar, and it seems like it's impossible not to get laughed at by every v8owner when Im sitting at a light.
Just recently I was sitting at a stoplight and an 80's body style throttle body injected 350 camaro pulls up next to me. Sounded like it had a pretty healthy cam, car was beat to crap and the hicks inside were spitting their dip spit on the floor. They roll down the window and motion me to do the same. Lets run 'em!! I just laugh, light turns green, they take off and smoke is pouring out of the hood right as he leaves the light, and the hazards go on. I pull up next to them and said "looks like this rice burner smoked you, literally!". Laughed all the way to the bank.

Well here in aus we have the same issue with V8s being the norm (holden and ford). I'm a holden boy thu and thu but I just love kicking there 6L V8 asses in my 2L turbo lol. You still get a bit of **** tho but only from bogans :P
Generally speaking, our friend from the U.K. is correct. The Evolution doesn't get the same respect from the masses as it does in the rest of the world. When I say masses I mean car enthusiasts with different tastes. Half of it is ignorance and the other half is this stupid "ricer" lable they put on anything they choose to. The Evolution is so damn good you can hate it, but you cannot question it's abilities. Just like I can hate and criticize Kobe, but I can't question his talent (only morons do the latter for either example).
I get this kind of stuff all the time with my Evo because I drive it everywhere. (I refuse to drive my other cars unless the Evo is down for maintenance or a mod.)
In the states, we had the horrendous mid 90's where everyone had a big ugly body kit, and a ugly wing. The Evo was released just as that fad had began to die. So everyone in the states assumed the Evo was just another one of those cars. I use to get laughed at in my Evo back in 2004. People would literally roll up, laugh and point at me, then call me a ricer.
People in the states also don't have a clue what rally racing is. Sadly, most people here learned about the Evo in video games.
Things have changed since then though. I don't ever get challenged on a daily basis like I use to, and people seem to just kind of whisper to themselves when they see the Evo.
But it won't ever be like it is in the U.K. and Europe.

EVO's are well respected in Canada, especially the 8/9's because we never had the privilege to buy them due to strict ministry of transport laws until 2009. Even when I would go to the dealerships to check out the new X in 2008, they wouldn't even let me test drive it and talked about it as if it was a ferrari or something lol.
