I know people that have had blowouts because of a pothole in a city street and even though the city EVENTUALLY paid it was so much time and effort on his part he said if it happened again he'd just replace it on his own and keep it moving.
dude you ever trying fighting a city or county before? they will do all in their power to NOT pay up. unless it was some horrific damage to your vehicle, i wouldnt even bother. try checking out ebay or some vendors on here. im pretty sure you can get a decent deal on a carbon fiber lip or something.
I guess ill be the first to say it. Yes u can get the city to pay for the damages. If it happened on city streets that is. It is their responsibility to keep the roads in good driveable conditions. A buddy of mine had wheels he just bought and hit a pot hole bending one where they were doing construction but was taking their time how they normally do. Yes they tried saying oh tough **** until he said he would get a laywer. They paid for the new wheel and tire in full.
There was also another incident in a small town beside ours where at a four way stop a sign was missing and someone ran through thintersection. Killing someone and the family sued the city. If its cities responsibility, fight for it its their jobs if they aren't doing it correctly they need to pay and do it right.

Not sure if its different in different cities but around here if you are the first to complain you are pretty much out of luck.
But if there have been previous complaints about the hole or section of road, and they don't fix it they will pay the claim.
At least that's the way it was when I filed and won a claim many years ago.
Good luck.

Honestly trying to get money from the city wether it was your fault or not is trying to get blood from a rock you can keep trying but it just wont work no matter how hard you try lol.
The public officals are going to get a look at the bill like that guy is funny his car looks low aahh **** its not like we are gonna help him anyway yes send my assistant in we have more paper for the shredder.

Alight well thanks for all of the input. I will get everything fixed off of my paycheck but I will still send the city an email when I have time. In case they are feeling generous :P.
Here in Michigan you can claim *much* easier by simply having the damage occur on an MDOT managed road. MDOT has a formal claim process that I hear is many times faster and easier than the local cities.
Michigan
City streets = Tough luck
Interstates = Covered
City streets labeled as routes such as M5, M1, etc = Also covered.

There was construction going on by a local hospital in my area where they were repaving the road. The road was uneven and there was a pretty big dip where it hasn't been paved yet. There were signs everywhere saying to slow down for the dip. My friend drove through at normal speeds ignoring the signs and literally had his front bumper ripped off. He filed a complaint and got a new front bumper. So it doesn't hurt to file a complaint, even if it's your fault, it worked for my friend lol.

I would bet a large sum of money that email will get you nowhere. You want to get this done - call people and write letters.
