I am done with Mitsus

ok, I've had my car for over months...
I've had rotors turned twice. Had alignment problems from day one. Second gear grind. Paint problem.

I've just about had it with mitsubish now.
I've just called the dealer to get my rotors "replaced".
Now they are telling me they need to see if the rotors are still turnable to specs. LOL

**** this ****. My experience with mitsubish has been nothing but dissapointments.
I was told they cannot turn the rotos more than twice for it would be too thin to turn them again.
My steering wheel shakes when I hit the brakes on the highway.
It even shakes a little when I am just cruising.
I like the car but, but the quality of service is what leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I don't know, maybe I just have bad luck with this car.
I am sorry but I am never going to buy another mitsu ever again.
Twice is enough. Both times have been dissapointing.
I just had to vent guys.
I am selling the car as of 01-02-03
For those of you that had good luck with your cars, enjoy.
Happy new years everyone.

Seriously don't get rid of your evo just because your rotors warp. Why not get another set of better rotors. I've had many other cars do the exact same thing.

19psi: I had my rotors turned once, but not by the dealership and i had the same problem, steering shaking when I hit on the brakes. i then had the dealership re-turn it, and the brakes are good as new. Apprently, the rotors need to be turned on the car and not be taken out and put on a lathe to be turned. Double check with the dealer if the rotors are turned on insitu on the car. Good luck!
What will you be getting to replace the Evo?

What's wrong with not turning the rotors more than twice? Did they say that they wouldn't replace them? Sounds like you got a bad dealer, not a bad car.

Sounds like you have excess material from your pads on the rotor. I bet a nice set of performance pads bedded in on those rotors would cure that problem. That is also adding to your steering wheel shake, but the wheel shaking while driving is a combo of the quick ratio, sensitive tires, and alignment.

It sounds like you may be looking for something different than what the Evo is about.

Get some 60 grot sandpaper and sand down the rotors to get rid of excess pad material. What pads are you using?

I had a 94 Galant and then a 96 Galant and they both had the warping rotors problem. Loved the cars otherwise......must be a mitsu thing with cheap rotors cuz I've never had that problem on any of the other 20+ cars I've owned.

I would also check the torque specs on the caliper, that could lead to a shake in the wheel.

Rotors should be turned on the car, not taken off. They can't be done as well off the car as they can with a proper turning machine used on car.

Torque adjustment is important to avoid warping. All the torque specs need to be set using a quality torque wrench.

If those things are done you shouldn't have problems. Recurring problems sound like one thing... shortcuts to get the work done quicker.

I had some minor problems with pad material transfer using the stock sut-up. I was able to clear the issue by changing my driving style, but since then I have switched to a different brand of brake pad.

What seemed to cause the problem was alot of driving in situations where I needed to brake from 50-70 mph to 0 repeatedly in trafic. I was going easy on the brakes because my car was almost new. The pads got warm, but not to the point they were overheated. Once I started to feel some vibration while braking I changed to braking more firmly; cleard the pads in a couple of days and I never had another problem with the stock pads.
