A/C clutch not fully engaging, seeking advice
Check on ebay for a compressor from a regular lancer. The lancer and some other models share the same ac compressor. If you try to find one for the Evo it's going to cost around 300 if you get one from a regular lancer it's going to run about 150 with shipping depending on the one you decide to purchase. Take the clutch off the new one and put it on your old compressor, make sure that the spacing is correct and viola. I tried to purchase a clutch assembly only last fall and it was back ordered due to the tsunami last year in Japan. And it costs the same as a whole new compressor on eBay. Hope that helps!
Is the magnetic clutch assembly available separate. I need to replace it. Even with the new spacers I think it's just so worn out it needs replacing. Not that I'm worried in the winter but I noticed if I new to defog the windows. Turning the AC on doesn't work to defog. I also don't hear the toms drop as usual. I'm sure it's considered a wear item. It worked for a while but no more. Post schematics if need be
Greetings,
I read this thread because I am having the same issue with the AC Clutch engaging and disengaging constantly. I just like to mention something that I think was missed here. The way you check the air gap of the clutch described here is not the same way it is indicated on my factory service manual. You actually have to apply voltage to the clutch first, then check the clutch air gap with a filler gauge. Anyways, I have this helps someone.

clutch & pulley, coil, overhaul kit
My aircon decided to blow hot air on a hot afternoon jam and continued on several occassions when it was hot. It worked fine for most of the time, So i prep the stuff to change and decided to post some pictures on the parts.

Clutch and pully set on the left, coil on the right

Clutch and pully set on the left, coil on the right
managed to squeeze some time out to change the parts that i have bought.
old gap measured with feeler is bigger than .65mm. after replacement of all parts, i used a shim with a gap of .33mm
some pointers:
1) there is a size 12 bolt and a small philip head screw to secure the bracket for the coil harness which needs to be removed as well.
2) remove the oil cooler brackets for the space required to work, i remove 3 bolts and left the oil cooler tilted down
3) i dun have a special tool to remove the armature, so i got a frd to remove the size 14 bolt while i held an open end spanner secured to one of the 3 round knobs on the armature to prevent it from spinning.

old shim, the gap was bigger than .65mm(largest feeler i had available)

Anyone have experience with Autozones 3rd party ac clutch shim kit for $5.99? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=946205_0_0_
Would this work with Lancer compressors?

Rumor is those recharge kits are pretty flamable if you get into an accident.
Not to hijack this thread... I guess my question is what the difference is between a full A/C service, and a recharge kit?
The full service seems to vacuum out the system, and then recharge it... this seems like its designed for when the system needs to be serviced (ie a component removed) and air had been introduced into the system? As opposed to the recharge kit which seems to just add more 134?
I'm not any type of HVAC specialist or anything like that... but I guess I'm just trying to find out when to use what and why?
I figure since this thread has been so A/C focused... maybe some of the HVAC know it alls will chime in and it can become sort of an A/C info thread?

Well I had this issue and just resolved it over the weekend. Same symptoms, a/c would work and then never re-engage... I pulled mine off and found 3 shims. I removed the two thinner shims and left the thicker one. A/C works perfectly now... I didn't measure the gap, but will try to pick up a mic to do so soon.

The clutch is suppose to spin freely? I was on the autobahn and my AC just started to blow hot air and after reading the thread, I attempted to remove the 14mm nut but the clutch spins freely. What is the trick to hold the clutch in place to break the nut? I tried the tap method and no luck, the clutch does not move with AC on.

Can you post part numbers etc
Did you just get the corresponding lancer parts for your Evo.
For my Evo 9 MR 2006
Should I just scan eBay for a 2006 compressor? I think the clutch is wearing out. It gets crazy cold then warms up it goes from maybe 45-47 degrees to maybe 55-60 then if I'm idling a while above 60 in this searing NJ heat

As requested
Mitsubishi CLUTCH KIT,A/C COMPRESSOR SERVICE MR315936
Mitsubishi ROTOR & ARMATURE KIT,A/C COMPRESSOR MR568461
Mitsubishi COIL,A/C COMPRESSOR MR568462
Anyone know where I can currently order the shim parts for this (MR315936 a/c service kit)? Two places cancelled my order, said Mitsubishi doesn't supply them anymore. Or does anyone know the dimensions of the shim? I don't want to disassemble the car to measure . . .
it the same part number that i ordered. ( i am not in US though)
there is another item number for this part number if that helps. AKC006A202B
its not a mitsubishi part number but its labelled on the service kit
