AC stops working randomly

I have a strange issue with my AC. when the car is stationary, no problems. While rolling it will cut in and out. It will blow cold as hell for 5 minutes, then then it just stops blowing cold air. It still blows but not cold. Shut it off, and back on it will work again. Today I had to drive 500 miles. there was a stint when it stayed on for about 2 hours, then just cut out.

Anyone seen this before, of have any ideas? About 2 years ago, I did have a fuel injector resister on the firewall corrode through one time, and I am thinking this could be on the same line of problem.

I really appreciate it anyone has some thoughts on where to look.

check r134a might be low on it. if low recharge it. if not that check the compressor clutch coil.

I have this exact issue right now and have been meaning to post about it, there is a repair kit that mitsu sells for the compressor I think I'm going to try, I think it may be a compressor clutch engagement issue. I'm sick ofswearing my ***** of so I think for the $25 the kit costs it's worth the try. BTW, my r134 levels are also good. When it stops blowing cold air I can see the compressor is no longer spinning

Yes, compressor coil.

I finally got it to not work one day and found it was intermittent coil operation.

Fairly common. I just shimmed my gf's Evo on Monday. Removed the .024 shim and installed the .019. All you need is a wrench, calipers for measuring or just "eye it" and a screwdriver to keep the plate from turning.

About how long would you say it took? Did you need to remove the belt? TIA!

The belt doesn't have to come off at all.

re shimming might work not work all the time. as if the coil is bad, it will over heat and will cause it to disconnect the ac shaft. to fix the problem properly you have to replace the coil. re shimming is a temporary solution ( although i do understand that it has worked well for some people on the forums ) .
