Had an issue starting this morning

Hoping I can find out what's going on. So yesterday I was noticing the car was having trouble starting, well, it took longer than usual and seemed like it wasn't getting enough power from the battery. My voltage gauge though (after the car was up and running) showed that the battery was fine. This morning though, it would not start! It would just click. I jumped the car, although it did not start on the first attempt, it eventually did. What was odd though was the gauge showed the battery to be fine again. Has anyone experienced this or know what the root cause could be? I thought battery at first, but made it home fine after a two hour drive. I'm at work now, and if I get the same thing later I'm going to be pissed!LOL Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Any CEL on?

I had this issue awhile back and it turned out to be the starter and the crankshaft position sensor.

Could be your battery or akternator, or check your cables for corrosion

Mine sometimes needs several cranks to start, I just give it a lil gas and fire up. It's been like that since I've had it though. Keep us posted on your findings.

As far as the battery goes, how old is it? Is it sealed or servicable? The battery at rest should show around 12.6 volts if it's properly charged. Amps is the more important factor when cranking.

Load test your battery. Showing 12.6 volts means nothing when cranking.

Since you have an 06, your original battery has served it's useful life.

I was thinking the same thing this morning on my drive--I'm sure this is the original battery (I'm the second owner). It would explain that jumping the car gave the battery enough to crank and get me going. I also did not have a CEL. I will have to go out during my lunch and attempt to start it. If it doesn't start...then battery shopping it is

Funny thing is when I had this problem, I kept my stock battery. I have an 04 and this issue happened in 08. Still starting up like a champ.

Car starting issues 101

Learn to use a simple voltmeter and you will quickly know if you have a battery or alternator issue. Rule those out first and then troubleshoot the starter system circuit.

If the battery voltage with the car not running is above 12.8 volts then the battery is fine.

If the battery voltage with the car running is above 13.8 volts then the alternator is working fine.

When starting the car, if all you get is a clicking sound, you either have a starter circuit problem or a completely dead battery. If you drive your car often, you will notice the car having trouble turning over before you get a dead battery.

If the car is slow to turn over, that rrr rrr rrr sound, your battery is weak.

Ground cables and checking the battery terminals to make sure they are nice and tight is the first thing. I had this issue with my old car and the battery would read fine, but volts and amps are different, and if the battery isn't grounded correctly it won't be charging properly and won't be able to provide the necessary power.

The give-away should be that even when you tried jump-starting the car, it had trouble.

1.) Battery dies overnight or short duration.
2.) Voltage meter reads fine at idle
3.) The car starts when you jump the batt.

Its the battery.

If your alt was going, you would have two indicator lights on, IIRC.

Save your self time and headaches by.....

Take the battery to your local auto parts store. They can check it for you and you will find out what voltage your battery has and the amount of cold cranking amps. I think on an Evo you need approximately 500-550 ccas.

I have the same battery problem and it seem to appear after a clutch install which was about 2-3 weeks ago. I just started a thread about it.
