wont start

wont start

hello i have an 03 evo 8 that will not start . first of all it was driving good then i stoped turned it off and came back to leave . i started it up and i started just fine i put it in first and i guess the belt broke not the timming belt the other on . so i parked it and turned it off well i tryed to start it not knowing the belt broke and it gave me problems . i had to leave it over night the next morning i gave it a jump and it started but ran ugly so i turned it off and saw the belt was broken so i had it towed home . well i put a new belt on it and gave it a jump tryed to start it but i will not start iv checked everything i could think of and now im lost . any help would be great ill keep workin on it right now see what i can do well thanks for reading ima get to work

which belt broke?...sounds like you broke 2 belts?...

i know the timing belt is still good i took the cover off and saw it working right

Check the timing belt timing marks. When the balance shaft belt broke it may have gone through the timing belt causing it to jump a few teeth. Don't try starting the car any more until you check this out. You may have valves hitting pistons.

I don't think he was talking about the Balance belt, I think hes talking about the accessory belt.

As barney says though the balance belt may have broke and cause the main timing belt to jump, try to put the cams and crank in time (by hand not by cranking it) and see if everything lines up right, if it doesn't, you found your problem.

If the accessory belt broke..you start using the battery only, since the alternator is not charging the battery anymore. The battery is probably dead. Put another battery in and see if it runs.

Yeah people, now that I read this again I agree that the OP is probably talking about the accessory belt. Hello OP. Anyway, in this case, with a new accessory belt the car should either start and run fine or the battery is dead.

Thanks for all the info I lined up the marks and found that it had jumped timing I thought I had messed up my head cus I had started it befor I checked timing and it was running ugly but I retimed it and it started right up but when I kinda got on it it ran funny some ppl told me to check the oil in it it might have gas in it so I did and all I could smell was gass so if I change my oil it should run right? Or did I do some bad to my head I hope not ill proly change my oil this week end and see how it goes I hope its juat the oil

I would look into doing a compression check on it, I dont think its oil making it run funny, how many teeth did the Timing Belt Jump??

Ya il proly do that then im going to change everything out proly pull the motor build it maybe try a wire tuck I dont know wat yall think about that but iv seen a few and to me it looks clean looks like its gunna take a while wish me luck thanks for all the help
