Stock steering wheel getting rough spots? Maybe this will help.

I tried this on my stock steering wheel today and it looks nice and almost new looking (at least for now).

The problem was I have noticed a rough spot on the top of the wheel from the previous owner and it has gotten a bit worse since I have had the car. This morning though I took the car to get it inspected and heading home it seemed like I was holding sand paper at times. This could have also been due to the fact that I had been at work all night and was tired as well.

Regardless here is how I fixed my problem.

I had read before that cardboard can be used as a light form of sand paper. Not being one to want to use real sand paper on my steering wheel I figured I would give this a try.

I took a box and cut a small piece off of it and used it as I would dry sand paper. Within less than two minutes the rough dull spot was shiny and smooth again. I know this is not a completely permanent fix such as getting the wheel redone or buying a new one but it is a fix. I will update from time to time how well this is holding up.

As for now though I have the feel of a new steering wheel.

These are after photos. I did not think to take any before shots. It was rather rough and dull looking though. It felt much like a sand paper before doing this.

Took a bit of work and the gauge will only read to 30 psi (which is more than I will ever use), but I think it works well with my plans for as stock looking as possbile.
