Need advice on painting rims

Hey guys, I'm considering paining my rims black with some kind of blue accent.

I've read a couple threads of people showing pics, but no one really give a lot of details on how.

What grain sand paper do I need?

Am I just sanding it to get it clean, or to rough up the surface to receive the paint better?

Is there a specific kind of paint I need to use?

How many times do I need to clear coat it to protect it from rock chips?

Also, will the added paint, and thus width, on the lug nuts cause a problem getting them back on? I.e. do I need to sand them down to compensate for the added paint?

About how long does this take to do all 4?

Thanks!

Good write up here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-pictures.html

IMHO...just get them powdercoated. Might cost more but you wont be repainting 6 months from now.

I plastidipped my wheels and that wears off quick if you DD the car. I would look into anodizing if possible with the wheels, and then powder coating if anodizing would work for you. Both these ideas are fairly cheap.

x3 on powder coat. Not worth the time and effort of paint just to see them road rashed in a few months of DD. It'd take forever to hand sand all the spokes on a stock set of GSR wheels.
