A/C Compressor making knocking noise
I wasn't sure if there was a thread about this, I couldn't find anything on this specific issue.
So my a/c compressor will start to make a knocking/clattering noise when its on.
But only when it gets warmed up and when its at idle.
I will be driving, than come to a stop then it will start making that noise. When I rev it up over 1k the noise goes away.
So I had the hood up to hear where the noise exactly is coming from, and it sounds like its down by the firewall in the drivetrain area.
Last year around this time: I took it to the dealership to have them pin point this weird noise. And I already figured that it had something to do with the a/c system.
So they had it for 3 days and said that the compressor needed to be replaced.
I was finally able to get a used compressor. Installed it, put it on vac. for 45 min, put compressor oil in it, and charged it to around 40-42 with R134.
It got nice and cold. Drove it for a couple of days than the same noise came back.
When I'm on the highway its starting to go from cold to warm for a brief time.
If anybody has had this same issue and knows what direction to go, the help would be much appreciated.
I'm in Kansas and it really sucks now driving without a/c.
