A/C problem
A/C problem
I have searched for "AC", "A/C", and "Air conditioning" problems but nothing seems to come up to match my problem..
This is about my evo IX, just wondering if you guys know anything about whats going on.
The car was running great, no problems except the A/C doesnt seem to be very cold. It will cool you down, but on Max AC and setting it to 4 doesnt really seem to get as cold as I think it should, and doesnt feel much colder than setting to 2. Also, the compressor will kick on, stay on for a few minutes, then turn off. Then less than a minute later, come back on again. I take this as meaning its low on r-134. So I bought a bottle with the gauge on it. my friend (who is a mechanic) filled it up while i sat in the car and turned the A/C on full blast. Air was blowing out cold, but not extremely cold or anything. he finishes, the bottle is almost empty, and we go driving. suddenly the air starts coming out warm, then slowly back to cold again. we stop, and leave the car running while the compressor turns on and then off again a couple times within 30 seconds. then everything seems fine. but now after having driven a bit, the a/c now feels warmer than usual, and as im driving I feel a slight decel/accel, like the compressor turning on and off and putting the load on the motor.
its been like this since yesterday, and with the A/C on full blast doesnt get very cold at all, id say even less than before. Any idea what could have happened, and how to fix it?
And please dont tell me to just remove the a/c altogether, I live in florida!

The pressure switch the switches the compressor on and off could be bad. The compressor could be bad or you could now have the incorrect amount of refrigerant in the system. Any AC shop can diagnose this in about 5 minutes. Take it in.
if it is going on and off every 30 sec your ac is short cycling. means you have to low of refrigerant in your system. which would lead me to believe you have a refrigerant leak. somewhere...take it to a ac shop and they can tell you more.
Hmm, I have the decel / accel surge while cruising and it happened recently. I checked my AC system and I am showing over pressure. Besides that I am really down on power.
Will a normal quick lube that does AC be able to diagnose or would this be better served by a reall mechanics shop?
