is it mandatory
is it mandatory
i drive an 03 evo 8 and was looking into tuning it to e85... how ever there is not e85 every where and so i was wondering (to cut fuel costs) is it mandatory for me to keep putting 93 oct in my car, will 87 damage it?
^^^ never go under 91. this isn't granny's honda lol. I'm sure the price difference between 93 and 91 isnt too much. I know for a fact that the gas you get in TN is way better than the crap 91 we get here in Cali.
I'm prety sure that 4RETECH was joking when he said pull the turbo off bro.
I ran E85 in my SR powered 240sx for 2 years and never had a problem. the previous owner of my Evo ran E85 for a couple years with no issues. I'm pretty sure that the fuel lines are going to hold up against E85 just fine. some back yard scientist tried a couple of "tests" for the 240sx community and found no ill effects from running E85 or rubber or metal.

I've seen a few Evos from other countrys run on 87 or 89 octane with a very vey conservative tune, seems you don't know much about the car you bought so please contact your local tuner for advice. I think Mellon is in tn

i have run the car for the 20k of the 24 k miles it has and the issue is not 20 cents recent changes here have a 1.20$ differance in 87-93..... that hitting me right after i bought a house and got married is hurting a bit...so im just wondering what you all who know more about the tuneing aspect then i do think on the subject as i have only done visual mods on my evo i bought the engine in the condition it is in.
I would say that if you dont have it around you then dont use it IMHO. with E85 you wil burn an average of 30% more fuel, thus having wore gas mileage. However, the power you get from it is great so it's a trade off.
if you want more power then go with a 93 tune or 93 tune with bigger turbo until E85 stations get built near to you.

Sorry, yes, I was joking about pulling the turbo.
As far as it goes. You can contact a tuner and see what they say. You never know, they might give you a conservative tune and make you turn down the boost to nothing for sake of knock. If it is killing you to keep filling it up I would say get rid of it and get another one when you are better financially stable.

dee242, the OP is more concerned with the cost of fuel. I doubt he would want to spend more for an entire system.
Anyway, A dual Map switch to me works better. That system they used in the supra can be emulated with the GM/ford optical fuel sensor.
The cost is just a little too much for my taste.
But good video.
