Should I buy this EVO VIII here in Australia?

I have an opportunity to purchase a high mileage EVO 8. 2004 model.
It is the officially imported model to Australia and sold by Mitsubishi Australia.
5 speed manual, yellow, 234,000kilometres!!
Everything standard except for K&N pod, exhaust system, leather inside and he also has a Ezyflash unit to change the tune from 16psi to 21psi.

There is also a little knob under the dash next to the OBD port... it turns like a potentiometer but I do not know what this does...

Asking price is $17K (aud)...

The clutch only grabs right at the top of the movement, so I assume it needs a new clutch. It doesnt slip (yet) but I reckon a hard launch will make it slip from then on, so you have to go easy on launching.
The gearbox is reluctant to shift when stone cold... you have to double clutch. AFter 10 mintues driving it is much much better but if you dont double clutch, you get a little grind on 2nd and 3rd... and you dont have to be shifting fast to get the grind.

Finally, when I drove around the block, a mate said it blew a very small amount of blue smoke....

Reckon it's worth buying?

The one thing you dont know is what mods has it had in its life time?
The car could have been stripped and retuned to be resold as near stock.
I know evos run strong but 234000km is a lot of miles for a performance car.
all that said it would be fun for 17k I had to pay 35 for mine.

I don't know how your prices compare to NZ prices but we can pick up a mint standard VIII GSR with 100,000km for as low as $20k.

The condition of the the gearbox and clutch could be relative to the condition of the rest of the car, parts that might not be as obvious when they need attention. This car could end up requiring a lot of money after purchase.

IMHO: keep looking. You will find the right one for the right price.

i think 17K is bloody cheap for aus!
granted, nothing on carsales.com.au has that sort of mileage, but everything is still way in the 20's...
The car has 2 owners. Only mods are the k&n, exhaust and a tune from chiptorque.. he has all the documentation.. oil change every 5000... dealer service every 10.
