Evo Maintenance/Vandalism/Etc

I was wondering if current evo owners can give some information on what the maintenance is like for an evo. I heard evos need lots of tlc to maintain. If so, how frequent and how much? Also do any of you have any problems with vandalism and haters? ( getting your car keyed, dumbasses driving up honking horns and challenging you with their stock civic?)

Here's the maintenance highlights. Some are a little more than what I expected (T-belt for example). Also, oil changes cost a little more since you need to use fully synthetic. At least it's only 5 quarts instead of 11 like some Porsche's.

* Oil/filter change, rotate tires every 3,750 miles or 4 months, whichever is first
* Driveline fluid change, air filter change every 15,000 miles (manual transaxle, transfer case)
* Replace drive belts, engine coolant, rear differential oil, check exhaust every 30,000 miles
* Replace timing belt, spark plugs, plug wires every 60,000 miles

I used to drive a modified RSX and I was challenged by the local ricers constantly. With the Evo I am finding that the ricers mostly keep a respectful distance and gape at me and now I am constantly being challenged by V-8's. I have no problem with vandalisim because my car is kept in a garage and I don't let it out of my sight when I am out.

I have yet to have a single ricer rev at me, they just tend to cruise by slowly. In fact, it seems hardly anyone wants to race me which suits me fine. I park my car miles away from anybody else when in a public place and it lives in the garage the rest of the time, so I haven't had any vandalism problems. I also have a decent alarm on her though.

Maintenance has been easier with this car than it was with my preludes. for the most part, everything is easy to get to, and it won't give you or itself an oil bath when you change it. I haven't had anything that warranted bringing it into a shop happen yet, just lots of fun driving and in a way boredom since there never seems to be anything that needs to be done to it

As far as Ricers... the only ppl that bother me usually are ppl with Lancer ES's lol. They start driving all crazy, but most other guys with Hondas and the like either just kind of cruise by or ride next to me trying to feel like 'part of the club' lol

Does the manual call for 3750 oil changes? That's far too soon with a full synthetic. On full synth with matching filter I'll go 6k between changes. I'd expect this to be able to do the same since the oil isn't diminished at 6k.

They say 3750 for people that drive hard, or whatever the term is (heavy traffic, hot climate, etc), and 5000 for normal driving I believe.

I haven't had much of a problem with ricers, except this totally riced out 91 TSi. It was really a disgraceful image done to such a beautiful car . It looked like it was hand painted white, 4 foot tall alumnium spoiler, "powder coated" stealies (yes, they were white and blue steelies) with decals of it's ricer-shop "Fast Fantasies" all over it. He was in front of me on the highway and kept trying to launch but it looked like all he did was bogg . Kept swerving and trying to look sweet and what not, basically, made an idiot out of himself while i drove normally and laughed at him

One other occasion was with this Del Sol on the same highway. Wasn't as bad in terms of looks, but he just thought he was hot ****, very laughable.

I mostly get serious challenges from cobras, sti's, z's, and dsm's. sometimes some v-8'ers too.

Here's my recent bout of vandalism....

That's the 2nd time too. It isn't safe if you live in an apartment complex, even if you have no enemies like me. I live in a suburb, away from the city, too, so it's not a ghetto area.

People will drive wrecklessly around you too, mainly the import people and especially the high school kids, regardless of car. For some reason, I don't get many people trying to race me. I think they've heard the hype about our cars. For the most part, I think most people just wanna see us mash the gas.

Is anyone going 4k or longer between full synth oil changes? Are you using the filter that goes with the oil, in other words Mobil One oil and Mobil One filter etc or just synth with factory oil filter?

Not on an EVO that I know of.

These things are HELL on oil. It's blacker than coal at 3,000 miles. Also, if you want the warantee honored, you HAVE to use fully synthetic with the recommended changes, and the filter is a special "shorty" filter - because the standard Mitsu filter will stick out below the spashguard (possibly resulting in a puncture due to road debris). Additionally, the factory fill is Mobil 1 10W-30.

The oil in an EVO just doesn't lubricate the engine - it lubricates an EXTREMELY high temperature bearing in the turbo, and goes through a stock air-oil cooler. I don't think anybody is going to risk running over the dealer recommended mileage ever.
