Walbro 255
Walbro 255
Quick question.. I installed my 255 fuel pump today. Started the car, let it idle. Everything seemed fine. I drove the car for 20 mins and it drove fine also. But I don't hear the "whine" everyone talks about.
Does this mean I did something wrong? And would my car even run if it was installed wrong?

Even on long drives stop and top the tank off frequently. At any rate don'y allow the tank to get below half full. The pump runs cooler with a full tank. Of course if yours is whining after long operating periods, then this may be a sign that the pump itself may be getting weak and its time for you to get a new one. Always carry your original pump in the glovebox as a spare just in case.... Especially on long drives.
I have had my walbro for over 5yrs and never had a problem with driving it until tank gets to e. It whines but I have to really tune into it to hear it. Its only really noticeable with back seat out.
Hot temperatures, low fuel, high load/boost will all cause the pump to work harder and make more noise. If you have all of the interior panels/carpet/seats it will muffle the noise quite a bit. Those of us in gutted cars driving in hot weather on a track in full boost tend to hear it quite a bit more.
