Drove an evo

Well I have a stage II 04 wrx (~275 hp) I drove an evo today and I was quite pleased. It pulled very similar if not the exact same as my car. I tested the brakes out and those things are nice The steering is just as wicked and sweet as everyone makes it out to be. I got to mess around with a motorcycle on the test drive and I stayed with him (not a sports bike). I wish I had curvier roads to take it on, because I wanted to really test the sweet steering. Damn thing does attract attention though. So overall results were straight line same as my car, but I would need to invest 2500 in suspension to get my car to corner up to par. Even then I might need wider wheels for extra grip too. (wrx stock is 16x6.5 inch). I was impressed though. I personally didn't think it rode that rough at all. Not much rougher than my stock wrx. Maybe a little stiffer, but it was still smooth. It just seemed to compress less with corners.

Glad you liked the Evo, helluva a car. I drove the STI and liked it alot but liked the Evo more. Sounds like your WRX is stout, curious though, why didn't you go ahead and buy the STI?

The stock STI's come w/o a cat, therefore, the tuning potential on the STI's is still not where it should be.

P.S. -> I used to be sponsored by ECU-TEK, and they have not yet cracked the code and therefore do not know the tuning capacity.

Wow, after almost 6 months now!!??

Heh I thought the Evo is not too stiff after the test drive but when you actually spend some time in it and especially on bad roads (hello Linden!) it's a ball breaker
Not sure how your wrx is though..

Every gasoline powered car in the US has a CAT. The STi doesn't have the pre-cat in the up pipe that the regular WRX has.

same reason I didnt get an evo, too much money. I am still in college and have to afford insurance and gas too
As far as the suspension goes, my dad has a lowered miata that rides quite a bit rougher, so maybe that is why I didn't think it was that rough. I think the suspension is like mine in that it adjusts from going straight and stiffens in corners, but just more so. It is a bit stiffer just going straight but nothing that is bone jarring. So I just need to have 150-200 more a month to blow on the payment and not gas then I could get one The car seemed to be geared a little lower in the higher gears than my car too. At 90 it was like 4k rpm I think and my car is at like 3600. As far as the cats go I believe the sti has 2 cats, one in the downpipe and one in the midpipe. My car had 3 cats (one in the uppipe too) I got ride of all three and put in one high flow cat and did a chip reflash, which is why it pulls the same. But even then I would get owned on corners for sure. I was kinda dissapointed I couldn't find any curvy roads, but I could tell the thing would corner like crazy. I can take 15 mph corners at like 40 right now so I am thinking the evo would add another 5-10 mph to that

The Evo is the bang for the buck. Or shall a say a couple bucks. I've driven the wrx and sti also. Good cars. It's obvious what i got. But i gots love for both cars. You really cannot rag on the 2 cars that can whooop a$$ on a stang or a camero.

I would go with the evo, just because I am into the whole fast turning and sharp response. The wrx is by no means a slow sloth though Maybe if the evo IX comes out when I get a job I will switch up. (1 and a half years away) I also think the evo looks better than the sti with the whole big wing thing. They did a better job of integrating it. Actually one thing I like better about my car than the sti (better looking wing). So assuming my plans go right, I will probably end up with the next generation evo, I just dont want 600 dollar car payments right now
