using tomei downpipe on evolution 8, is downpipe braket necessary?

i have a broken bolt/stud on my downpipe and when i brought it to the mechanic they noticed that there was no bracket that goes from the downpipe and bolts to the block like the oem one. they said that the bolt will probably break again without this bracket.

is this a necessary piece? or was the bracket designed to be used for just the oem downpipe?

It might be a wise investment to have the bracket since without it everything is basically hanging on the exhaust manifold and lower exhaust hangers...

But I wouldn't call it "necessary" per se. But if you're breaking bolts, then its probably a good idea...

Why do you ask? They trying to charge you an arm and a leg? Or you just don't want to have that hanger?

they quoted me $200 for labor and $100 in parts, oem gaskets and the oem bracket. i dont know if the oem bracket will fit the tomei downpipe, and i see alot of other downpipes like the buschur racing, helix, and megan that dont have a bracket on them.

Well that seems pretty high for just welding up a bracket imo... but who knows?

Mine doesn't have the bracket on it at all (Buschur) but I'm also not breaking anything... ymmv.

The Tomei downpipe ONLY mates with the Tomei O2 housing. The Tomei O2 housing has the bracket that bolts to the block.

Make sure you have a matching set. If not, whoever sold you the Tomei downpipe owes you the O2 housing.

i have the 02 and the downpipe, but the genius who owned it before me installed it without the bracket on the 02. i just payed them to install high strength studs as i didnt know if the stock bracket would bolt to the tomei unit. i hope they hold....
