Double Din

So I'd love to throw a double din lcd screen in my new evo. I'm also a software engineer so naturally here's what I've been thinking:

I'm fine with relocating my climate controls down below the double din, however I don't like any of the solutions for relocating the the other analog instruments that I've seen so far. So I came up with the idea of monitoring those things electronically through a display in the lcd screen -- which brings up a questions

#1 Has anyone done this already?

#2 Does anyone know of any open source lcd / programmable lcd decks out there?

#2.5 If it were possible to get a #2, is the data I'm interested in available or accessible from the ecu? (Sorry, I'm a complete noob when it comes to mechanics) Ideally, I would like to expose any/all data from the ecu and display it in a configurable / data driven manner.

#3 Would anyone else be interested in this side project if I were to start up on it?

Thanks!

They are analog controls, there is no way to monitor those things digitally.

Unless you have a non-USDM evo, then you get climate control and electronically controlled heater stuff

well thats not completely true if u added servos to the analog wires u could electronically control them and given a specific distance traveled if measured could correspond to the position the analog dial would set to etc... complicated yes impossible no

Well that's disappointing =\ Yeah I'm sure there's probably some creative engineering solutions to convert that stuff to digital signals but I was hoping it would be easier than that. Damn.

unfortunately i don't think it can be done any otherway besides buying all the stuff from a edm or jdm evo and retrofitting even then idk how to integrate into a computer.
