Guys with Built Engines

Every time I hear a rattle or clunk or bang in the car, I'm asking myself what just happened or is something about to go again. With having blown an engine and knowing how much the new engine cost, how long did it take you to feel relaxed again?

I'm hoping my anxiety goes away or at least it gets parked for the winter and I forget about it over the winter.

Dude if you did the assembly right along with a good clean install and most important a good safe tune then you have nothing to worry about. Just make sure you get good oil/gas and turn the boost down when it gets cold. Let her rip!

I dont think that the thought in the back of your head will ever go away. I'm on my 4th and hopefully LAST motor for a couple years and its always in the back of my head lol.

I put my current engine together and got the car running about a month ago, broke it in, everything was going fine, I felt really good. The engine was showing no signs of bad behavior I'd put it together with all the right stuff, put together right.
Then one day I need to make a left turn onto a busy street. I get up to about 7-8 PSI of boost in second, 45 MPH and just as I let off I pass a construction worker using a jackhammer. I damn near **** myself. The cadence of the hammer blows was perfectly matched to what I imagine engine destruction sounds like.
I spent the whole rest of that day stressed out.

I have about 400 miles on my new engine and I'm stressed out every time I take the Evo out.

I'm not going to lie, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is stressed out over it. Aaron@ER assured me once it's tuned that these thoughts will pass and I will start driving it like a 600 HP car is supposed to be driven....but I'm not so sure

Hopefully I'll get over it at some point...I'm definitely still paranoid....

Lol, its funny hearing this from Evo guys... I used to have a turbo 10:1 compression rotary engine. If you guys think you panic about every little sound and bump you should see how the rotary guys live. Those things pop like popcorn kernels. I still get nervous about my motor sometimes, but its reflex habit from my rotary days. My tuner just laughs at me and tells me to relax.

There is always a thought that it might pop, but that is why I had a backup engine at home. Too bad I sold it though, LOL

^^ I'm actually planning on doing that. I only expect my motor to last about 2 to 3 years so I'm going to start saving up for a new short block so I can have one on stand by.

Definitely going to look out for another bare block to keep as a backup.

My built motor sounds like an can of nails.

If the motor is built right, with proper clearance you won't have a problem so stop worring.

engines don't blow up just because... It all depends on the tune as these guys mentioned above

I had a 4G94 boosting "ALL STOCK MOTOR" 17 pounds as a DD and everyone was like what your crazy its going to blow up... 1 year later I sold it stock and the motor still runs great, if you hear a noise its something else. Just keep your temps down and your tune on the rich side a little bit "don't sacrifice power though" and you will be good. But be sensible about how much boost you push on your motor and what your mods can handle

lol I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm running stock internals on a remachined head with arp studs, metal head gasket and gt3076R on 26psi with 11.7afr so it's not too bad. Been that way for about 4 years and maybe 80000 miles so you think youre worried? I'm waiting for mine to pop. I'm gonna try and get another 50,000 out of it, I haven't checked compression lately though. Gotta do that.

its just in your head because youve invested a big chunk of change, and you dont want it to take a crap, im kinda the same way but other then oil leaks, i get intermitten clunks, but im chalkin that up to somethin in exhaust hittin somethin. Mines good built 2.0, running straight 91 octane 30k + on it, dd other then it gettin more performance lovin. So treat it like your girlfriend instead of your hoe, and youll get more life out of it haha
