$2000 Service...

So, as I just purchased my Evo (even though all of the log books are up to date) I am about to drop 2k on a "Full" service.

The car is sat on just over 99,000kms, and here is what is going to be done.

- All fluids (engine oil, diff oil, brake flush, coolant flush etc)
- All filters
- Timing belt
- Water pump
- Spring tensioner
- Plugs

Is there anything else I should get done while the motor is virtually in pieces? Are there any gaskets or pulleys that I should consider changing? Thermostat? I am getting a squeal from my timing belt area, not sure if it is the belt itself or a pulley. I just didn't want to put the car back in the shop once it comes back out.

The main reason for the full service is just for piece of mind. I know it doesn't all need doing, but it's just so I know my motor is all sweet.

That seems like a lot of $. I am sure you could get a better deal at a reputable tuning shop that works on evos. The service manual will say what all needs to be done at that mileage interval.

When you say diff oil do you mean the rear diff ?
If so, then have them change the gearbox oil too.

might as well do serpentine belt while you're at it

Here's a list of all the evo maintenance stuff you'll need to do and at what intervals

If it were me, I would change out some bushings in the steering and shifting departments to freshen up the feel of the car.

OP... I think thats a good start. If they're going to be flushing your brakes, you may want to have them install an uprated brake fluid. Something like a Motul RBF600... not sure what you have available down in Australia.

If they're doing fluids, be SURE that they use OEM fluids for the transmission bits. Not OEM equivalent, OEM. Also... check the sticky on here to see which fluids go where... many websites have it backwards actually.

I'd also suggest reading the how to: modding your Evo $100 at a time post since it will help you very much if the car is heading in for a service.

Also... just out of curiosity... what is the Evo market like down in Australia? What kinds of prices are you finding on the different Evos? Are they difficult to come by?

Thanks for the input guys!

$2000 is alot for a service, but I've had quotes up near the $2200-2500 mark. Mitsubishi want $1200 just for the timing belt.

The guy just said ALL fluids. He mainly uses Valvoline engine oil. Maybe I should just buy all of my own fluids and have him use them? ProPilot, I will check out the sticky and make a note

Evo market - Pretty lame if you are looking for an ADM version like mine. Very hard to come by. I picked mine up from a Mitsu dealer for $28k. I had to drive 9 hours each way to get it, but totally worth it! You are looking at the same price for a JDM version. The only thing is, It is hard to finance that amount on a personal loan (unsecured), where you pay 14% interest. Usually, the ADM version are more expensive as there are more finance options.

I would also do a compression test and a boost leak test before you get it back to make sure the valves are closing, the head gazket still seals good.

You may want to check the VIN at a dealership and see what the past history was. If you are going to spend that much money, make sure you use what the OEM calls out for on all fluids.

I was thinking about doing a compression test actually, but I might get Mitsu to do that, along with a boost leak test.

I don't think I am leaking anyway... at least I hope not ...but seriously... I don't think I am. Best to check though!

$2,000 is a good price as long as the parts are part of it.

Your parts and fluids are close to $800 if not more.

I would say Gold service kit with serp belt tensioner.
