how do i tell if my engine has been replaced

Like title says. How do I tell if my engine has ever been replaced with a motor out of another car or how to tell if my motor has been rebuilt. Is there something that matches to the vin on the car?

But, even if that matches, all that proves is that its the original block.

This is interesting. Someone states in here there is no VIN stamp on the block, but there is somewhat of a serial number that can be traced to the vin?

then the engine would NOT have been replaced, it was just REBUILT. Then OP would have to wonder if just the engine had been gone through.
