How can i repolish my polished heat shield?

i have an aftermarket exhaust manifold heat shield. not sure of the brand but looks very similar to arc. the shield was polished new but is now a bit cloudy from the elements. i would like to know is there anyway i can polish it without using an abrasive? i was thinking about using just regular chrome polish and a drill and buffer but i was afraid it may heat up and catch on fire if i missed some left over polish when wiping. any advice will help. Thanks guys, Adam

What type of metal is it? This does wonders for aluminum if you take your time with it:

The polish won't catch fire if you leave some on there. It'll heat up and maybe smoke. Smell nasty. But no fire.

Just take your time, wipe it off well after you polish it, and it'll be fine. Any type of aluminum polish will work, the mothers brand that Blue posted above is good.

That stuff will still work. Just go to any auto parts store, and look for wheel/chrome/whatever polish. Just make sure it doesn't have a cut to it. You want a polish, not a compound with any abrasive in it.
