Can anyone give me directions on how to remove the heat shield above the cat and straight pipe?

I would rather not cut it off, like some would say.

pretty sure it's just held on by 4 or 6 small bolts/nuts. You'll need a small socket and wrench to take them out. I recall it being a minor pain in the butt, possibly requiring the prying of some metal tabs to create the clearance.

 

the down pipe heat shield was held by 10mm bolts (cant remember how many tho)
i took it out when i have the downpipe out which is a lot easier!!

 

i can see those little tabs, but they dont seem to come off with any allen keys, they seem like rivits? spelling sucks i know.

I dont need to remove the shield on the downpipe just the 2 after it.

 

OK GUYS FINALLY! ! ! ! ! i figured out what the damb rattling noise is on my Exhaust! I have the Tomei cat back and test pipe and everytime i get to 2200 - 2800 RPM its start to rattle, It sounds like the damb heat shield ie.. like cheap metal dancing around. I purchased an AMS HFC, becasue people where saying they got rid of the rattle by going to a straighter pipe. Well it was the springs that hold the pipes together.... I only had one stock tomei spring so i purchased 3 from NAPA, they where a C-hair thicker.

I started to take the exhaust apart and when i did i touched the spring and realized they just touching the pipe. Took the car out and no rattle... I am FREAKIN SO HAPPY NOW! ! !

That was the whole reason i wanted the heat shield off .. to eliminate the problem completly
