HORRRRRIBLE E85 gas mileage (~10mpg)

Sooo... I'm getting pretty terrible gas mileage on e85. I know people say that they get lower mpgs on e85 than on pump gas, but I'm getting pretty horrible mileage

Put $20 in my car 2 days ago (about 3.40 a gallon) and drove about 50 miles before I was at the same amount of gas... thats definitely less than 10 mpg. Plus... ~.50 cents per mile seems a little expensive... :/

It's been like that the past month that ive been running e85. Most I've gotten is about 14 mpg... I don't push the car too much either, drive it like a granny for the most part, occasional pull, and cruise on freeway around 70 mph. I feel like I get worse mileage on the freeway than I do driving in town. I watch my AFRs while cruising on the freeway and it ranges from about 13.9-15ish. Does this seem right? I hear a lot of people doing 15.8 for their cruising afrs on e85

Been having a lot of other issues like startup with e85 lately too but that's a whole different topic on its own

stock block, stock turbo, just GSC S2 cams, walbro 255, pte 1200 injectors and BPR8ES gapped at .020

Any ideas as to what's wrong? Could my o2 sensor be going bad? Could it be my ignition? I have a spoolin up COP on the way.

I'm getting bad milage as well. Mine started after I removed egr and evap.

Let's see if anyone else is in this situation.

What kind of mileage did you get before e85? Could be your injectors are not scaled properly

haha this cracks me up. I jsut recently switched back to pump from e85. I was getting roughly 170 miles to a full tank!! It was ridiculous. Plus I had to plan out my gas anytime I tool the car on a trip. What a pita. If I had a built block, I might need e85 more.

Anyways, I am back on 93 octane, and all I can say, is I do not miss e85 right now. I got 165 miles right now and im just under 1/2 tank. Im happy again.

This is why I am looking to trade my hta green setup for a 6262 or 35r. Make crazy power on pump, keeping tq relatively low, its gonna be fun!

Your on stock turbo though. To have some fun with it, you need e85. Turbo upgrade!

My milage on pump was 200-220 a tank. After e85 switch and new injectors I was getting 160-170 per tank. After I removed egr and evap, added a ported manifold and 65mm tb I'm getting around 110 per tank. I need to figure this out soon, I'm definitely not going back to pump gas

Not sure if I can post my timing map since a well known tuner did it

I am right at ~200 miles to a tank of e85 maybe more I only put gas in now in 5 gallon increments. 42* at cruise at 16.2-16.8 afr. Biggest thing is to keep the AFR's lean when reading in GAS afr, and lots of timing.

I did try running at 17+ afr, and did not see any real increase.

I'm doing exactly this, but I'm keeping afrs right at 16. Im shooting for 250+ per tank

My tuner says he gets 350, but won't share exactly how, but he did recommend 15.5, 42*, and said anything leaner just uses more gas...

I will experiment with it

The problem with people saying they get more than around 220 to a tank, just sounds like BS. Without real proof, that is way byond what 99% of the people see. If he said he got like 240-250 I might think it true, but 350, I just dont think that is possible(Pending Proof).

I dont think people get that on pump gas. The most I ever saw on pump gas was 310 to a tank and that was all highway.

I got 350 on 93, but yeah, I can definitely see your point. Im in no way thinking I can reach that on e85.

on a second note, since our cruise values are 42*, do you zero-out your EGR-enabled advance table?

You guys must be doing something wrong. I get 200-220 easy unless I'm doing a hpde, then it's not ever worth mentioning. Get you're cruising AFRs between 15.2-16.2, wot to 12.2 and part throttle to 13.5-14.7 and you should see improvement. For the record I have no evap, no egr and run 1450 to 86% idc.
