11,000 RPM is so old news.......

People forget that there are records that have been set for the last 20 years by shops and people that are still around. They see these new guys pop up and get the "ooooh, aaaah wow" factor going and it just kills me.

Talk of high rpm, aluminum rods, high compression, exotic materials, pictures of CAD drawings that are obvious to look at and see they won't work before they are even produced, methanol etc. It's MOSTLY all old news.

So for a little reminder to the new guys. Smoke and mirrors, CAD drawings and a bunch of technical talk about exotic materials don't set records.

I tried to go through my logs and find some really old datalogs to post but over the years have deleted too many files.

Instead I have a little video here that I am going to post up. This is of the infamous John Shepherd in his 1G AWD DSM.

In this video the car runs a 7.70 at 191 mph. As you can see by the in car camera the tach starts at 8,000 rpm on the launch and then in 4th gear is run out to over 11,000 rpm. The engine in the car was one of our 2.0 liter engines. A high compression (yes, that's nothing new), aluminum rod, hard blocked 2 liter with a STOCK balanced and polished Mitsubishi crank shaft. The cams were hydraulic too with OEM lifters and rockers. Makes you think about that smoke and mirror thing doesn't it? Keep in mind this was done in 2006.

Also to note, in 2006, this same car also ran a best of 195 mph, requiring even more RPM to finish the run in 4th gear. It wasn't unheard of to see 12,000 rpm peaks from John's car.

Oh, did I mention this was on an OEM Mitsubishi oil pump and front cover with the stub shaft balance shaft delete in it? Did I mention this is also on an OEM oil pan?

Very interesting, don't you all think?

Enjoy the video:

Here's one of Mike Reichen's car busting the standing mile record, looks like he has no problems twisting it well past 10,000 rpm either:

I think most of us know this. It's just fun seeing new tech. Also the 100K+ builds are cool, not because they're any more functional than the 20K builds, but because they're outlandish. You should relax, don't take it personal and enjoy the show. People will still buy your motors.

I hit 14k rpm's in my RSX-S a few years back. Of course at the same time my cylinder wall collapsed and destroyed the engine and even cut one of my spark plugs in half.

That's beyond amazing to rev that motor that high! I didn't know DSM made motor cycles now lol. The powerband must be ridiculous, it looks like he fought the car all the way down the track in the first video! Built or not I'd be so scared to rev my motor that high, something in my head just clicks at 7500rpm and says shift! Thank you David Buschur for always expanding the game and showing the nay-sayers what our cars can do!

I don't see him taking it personal at all, there is no argument here or anything anyone has said that is a personal attack against Dave. He's informing the public of things that have been done for years that new people may never have seen or heard of. There's nothing wrong with this. A lot of companies have come and gone, the best are still around and have been around for a reason.

David,

Why did you have to make a thread to clown Spyros' build? Why would you put this much energy to fight back against what he's made or shown? Who questioned your motors? WHo said you didn't go 9.0 @ 159 in your car? You have proven yourself and your products and justified what they can do. I love the 2.3rpm you brought to the community as an example, But why such hate on a guy who created new parts and shared with the community? I understand he said things in the other thread disrespecting your work, but let him be. He's not even in the US lol!

Bringing in Mike Reichen and Shepherds car is a bit unfair. Those are freaks in their own right and Spyros car is just different. The gtr has fancy parts as an example and tons of engineering, but a built buschur evo will do a better 1/4 time. Does that mean the gtr has no results? Does it mean it's just fancy technology thats a waste because it still loses in quarter and has not an impressive power band as a 2.3 buschur engine? Its just different thats all.

I support both shops!

......Although i see what you're implying, what are you getting at here (DB)?.... this thread is obviously about Extreme Tuners. The technical knowledge that they bring to the table is outstanding (in there dyno section thread) and in all honesty it looks like you're trying to belittle them with thread like this. In reality I haven't seen a post from them yet that has tried to down play any of your achievements.....or anyone else's

Heh, I think Shep's car was all about that "Push clutch in with chute" sticky note on the dash.
