Get rid of ac?
Get rid of ac?
So I was at the track today and at the end of my second run the car died
Got it back to the pits and figured out that the ac compressor clutch seized up and fired.. Not a very good last day at the track for the year. Anyway I was wondering about completely removing the compressor and ac, has anyone done this? And what was your weight savings and hp gain? Trying to figure out if its really worth it or just fix it. Thanks

I would personally keep it. Think about all those hot and super humid days we have in IL... I would rather drive around with AC than with the windows down getting hit by the hair dryer air.
You could get rid of the ac compressor and condenser to save weight. Then you would either have to get a shorter belt or get a pulley to still be able to run the regular main belt. Idk if anyone makes a ac delete kit for it tho..

There's really no need to remove the A/C unless your planning on going the FF manifold route. Sure there are some weight savings there and maybe a few horsepower but if it's your daily driver and you see yourself using your A/C frequently then you might as well keep it. If you don't mind not having A/C on those hot humid summer days sitting in traffic then by all means...
There's no way I could live without A/C in FL. Stuck in traffic or going out to the car after work in the middle of the afternoon... ugh. It would hurt re-sale value quite a bit too I'm sure... unless you're keeping it forever... lol
buschur sells the ac delete belt and actually if you take everything including lines, compressor, and the small intercooler thing in the cabin forgot whats the name(currently drunk right now lol ) you'll save a good 15-25 lbs and oh yeah that ac condenser too haha

If you live anywhere it gets remotely hot (don't know about IL but looks like it from the replies) AND wifey rides in the car, keep the A/C.
The last person I knew of who purposely took out A/C for the sake of performance got an earful from his wife every time they rode together. That isn't worth it in my book lol. (oh he's never done that since)
