What is this?
Bought a shift boot from a member recently so I went to install it. After finding out I already have solid base bushings, I also found this little thing that's zip tied to the shifter cage. Anyone have any ideas?
Does your car have an aftermarket alarm? It looks like it might be a tilt sensor for an alarm. Follow the wires until they either get to a component or tap into other wires. That mess is definitely not factory.
EDIT: After looking at it some more, it looks like it may be a resistor. Like I said, follow the wires and post up what you find out. I don't think the guys above are seeing the beige block that's zip-tied to the shifter assembly.

does not look like any tilt sensor ive ever seen so i think you are on track with the resistor relay or whatever it is.

There is evidence that the car previously had an alarm system since the blinking LED is still there and not even hooked up to anything. I don't think this thing is related to the alarm since this block is hooked straight into the harness itself. I can only guess O2 simulator just like you said but even then, SES light comes on with the O2 heater malfunction code popping up every time so I guess it either doesn't work or it's hooked up all wrong.
I'll try to get more pictures up on where it hooks up to in a bit. Just need to eat some dinner.

I'm leaning towards resistor to fool the secondary O2.

Well, it is a resistor for the O2 except the wiring is just a hack job. I can do a better job with just a nail clipper and tape. :/
Whatever, took the entire resistor off the car completely, taped the exposed wires up and just need to get 2-3in of cable to reconnect the white wire that was cut while the previous owner tried to just strip it.
