How old were you when you bought your first evo
Bought and 06 Wrx and totaled it and then bought and 05 Evo this year. I'm 21 which seems to be the common age to finally afford to drive these cars. To bad my insurance is still more than my car payment.
26. From the first day I understood what a STi was and how I spent the rest of my days (until a year ago) a hater of all things EVO. Well, I bought a used stage 3 06 STi and loved it, up unti it had a brief and unhappy retirement.
As a subscriber to Modified Mag, I came across the Castrol Top Shop Challange a few years ago, and the 1st prize 1000hp 2.0 4g63 built by AMS. When the subby went the way of zoot suits, my 06 IX was the next logical choice. That and the fact that its now a 500-600hp 2.3.
Suby, eat your heart out!

I hope I am still 23 when I pick one up.
I am finding it really hard to find one with good records, maint., low mileage. I am willing to fly all over the states to pick it up (live in Calgary, AB, Canada), have cash, but its still very hard to find exactly what I am looking for. But the biggest problem I'm running into is mods. Because I plan on this being my DD, I won't need more than ~300whp. I'm starting to realize how hard it is to find a lightly modded evo. Oh well, "walk to buy, run to sell" as someone else here mentioned.

21- Got a used evo ix with 57k miles about 3 months ago. Graduated college and found a job that pays well enough for me to afford it. Loving it so far.
For all you other young guys (21 and under) how are so many of you affording evos?! Even the ones that said they bought it themselves, did you work 2 part times just to afford one or are your parents rich and you get a buttload of money on your birthday? I could only dream of owning one in hs or even in college.

A poor choice in my opinion because now he has loans to pay off as well as car payments and high insurance. Not saying thats the case with all the guys that are under 21 or still in college, but thats how he did it. Personally I think you made a great decision in waiting until you could really afford one
18. My parents both passed away by the time I was 18, I have been working near full time since I was 15. Now I work approximately 50 hours a week, wrapping up my third semester of college, and occupy myself with misc. side jobs/car flipping for some side cash. My life has been kind of crummy up to this point, but getting in the EVO every day makes me happy... well after a few cold start fails
Notice when you get someone who is < 21 years old posting, the first thing they say is how their mom/dad didn't buy it for them. For the majority that is false. I have worked throughout the majority of high school and university. I have never been in a position to afford such a car and I am quite a frugal person. Unless you: 1. deal drugs 2. don't go to school 3. are the entreprenurial type, I just do not see it. Especially given the current state of the economy.
Keep in mind, being able to "afford" such a car means different things to different people. Taking out a loan for a used performance car is not "affording" the car. To me that is buying it cash, being able to pay for operating/maintanance expenses, and have around $5000 saved up if the motor/tranny/LSDs/tcase lets go. Cause face it, these things happen with these cars.
Compromising your financial position or health to be able to drive this kind of car is the definition of stupidity if you ask me. There are a lot of other things in life that will make you happier than a car.

Why are you concerned about other people's decisions?
For the record, I paid for mine in cash, I don't deal drugs, I do go to school, and I work my butt off to support myself. I've never missed a utility bill payment, and I live quite comfortably still...
