Evo Owner Paranoia

I was just thinking about all the problems my car had this year, and how half of them ended up not even being problems, so I thought I'd get other feedback:

What was the worst noise you've gotten from your car and it's relatively simple fix (when you thought it was gonna be a total nightmare)?

For me, I had a terrible popping/banging noise coming from the front of my car at one point - happened EVERY time I accelerated or decelerated, and i thought for sure there was something wrong with the transmission, t-case, whatever and was already adding up the bills in my head.

It's true cause? Strut tower was a little loose, and the popping was coming from the front struts when there was a shift in weight, such as accelerating or decelerating.. go figure. Thought it'd be a good time to reminisce

Terrible rumble strip like noise when driving, and grinding while turning. Figured it was the driver side wheel bearing, and it was the driver side wheel bearing.

Right now I'm hearing a noticeable whine, especially in 4th gear around 2k rpm. Still don't know what it is.

This year the only problems I have had were a blown up catch can, flickering HVAC controls, and sometimes my fifth gear synchro grinds.

I figured out that my catch can blew apart when my throttle was going up and down right after an auto-x run. I have since then decided to run the catch can out of the boost system.

The flickering HVAC controls I haven't fixed yet I hope its just a blown light bulb.

The grinding fifth gear synchro issue I hope to address by rebuilding the transmission later in the year. It doesn't really freak me out its just annoying when I go on the freeway and it grinds as I shift into top gear.

I was trying to figure out why the driver's side doorcard was buzzing after being deadened. Took the thing off a few times, checked everything and it was still buzzing. Come to find a pack of Tick Tacks in the map pocket.

Put in a new exedy clutch in this fall and when the shop i bought it from told me it would be loud i never thought it would be that loud. drove around for three days like a senior citizen thinking my transfer case was going to call it quits at any moment. (didnt have a choice to not drive, got bills ta pay) so I brought it back to the shop and all he said was i told you it would be loud!

Thought I had two blown billistein struts after a rallycross. Nope just both lower ball joints at the same time. So much cheaper than new billisteins whew. Thank god for whiteline =]

Thought I blew my motor after a hard acceleration, heard a cyclic metalic sound matching my engine speed. Turns out my frnt tire shredded on the inside and was slapping around in the fender well.

oh and that comment about the exedy clutch being loud. ha ha, its like a loud cement mixer.

Oooh I have another one

I was doing some pulls WOT 1-3rd gear, when around the top of 2nd I got some misfire (in the process of tuning) and then a huge BOOM and a craaaazy scraping noise following.. I was certain I had blown my motor, and I was miles from any town...

Turned out I blew off my muffler as I was making the pulls (Buschur slip fit with magnaflow in the back), and the magnaflow was dragging along the highway as I went. Had the thing welded shortly after.

Thought was loose timing tensioner on new motor... was spun balance shaft bearing from blocked oil passage.
