Reverse issue on my 6 speed

Ok so the problem started out a acouple days ago. I was having trouble getting into reverse. When I did try it just goes in. And as soon as I let the clutch out. It will grind and pop out. Whats the deal guys?

Any issues in any other gear? Are you sure you are fulling in Reverse? check the shift linkage on the trans make sure nothing is obstructing the movement.

The slider itself is probably shot. The teeth grind of inside the slider and when you put it in gear, there is not enough of the teeth left to hold onto the gear and it pops out.

Nope. No other problems going into any other gears just reverse. So is it hard to repair? or what should be done?

Before anything you have to check in the engine bay and the shifter assembly itself that nothing is stopping it from fully going into the gear.

If there is nothing wrong there, the tranny has to come out and 6 speeds are not fun to work on. I did it a couple times and it was very unpleasent compared to the 5 speed.

Do you have a short route I/C piping kit? Reverse gear is the highest one on the lever to the tranny. Make sure nothing is in the way. I have this happen every once in a while. I adjust the UICP occassionally but it naturally just goes down and rest on the lever.

That should be your issue, man. You can adjust it by giving the pipes a little more slack through the couplers. I don't think the short route kit was really meant for MR's.. You can just tell if you have someone attempt to put in reverse as you look at the engine bay. The lever hits the UICP.

Yeah, check the cables.

My buddy had a shop change his clutch on his IX MR and same thing. Reverse was hard to engage. We checked the shifter cables. Finally I had to adjust the cables under the shifter itself( luckily I had the manual for it). No one ever mentions that the cable is adjustable from the interior.

Good Luck.

Ok I just looked at the level and its hitting the bottom of the pipe. How far should the level move?

On the coupler from the pipe that connects the upper pipe to the lower one; Loosen the bracket on the top of the coupler and give the pipes more slack. The pipes don't need to be all the way in the coupler. Use the couple as an extension.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like you found your problem. I used zip ties to pull up on the UICP so the pipe wouldn't rub against that assembly on the top side of the transmission.
