evo clutch...bottom line

i just got off the phone with the service managers of ALL socal mitsu dealers. i was shocked. i have 11k on my evo, i NEVER launch, never race, never track. i got 125k out of my last prelude SH clutch. basically they all said the same thing. 11k is the most that they have seen on an evo 8...that they were suprized that i hadn't failed the clutch yet...and that i should be prepared to replace the clutch every 10k, or so. prices ranged from $1299 (union mitsu) to $1699 (i won't say). i must say that had i had i had the same conversation six monthes ago i would probably thought twice. it seemed that a common notion from all the sevice managers was that it was an all wheel drive car and thats just the way it is. so why is it that my friend who has an A8 has 60k on his factory clutch? and he drives it hard! does anyone have more miles on thier evo yet? i could use some positive feedback right about now!

15,500 on my EVO, stock clutch. I've slipped the clutch a few times on accident in a panic to rush across traffic and I don't track or race my EVO. This is my first AWD car, so I guess I'm still getting used to it.

Just don't go WOT unless the clutch is all the way engaged and it should last you longer.

I had almost 12k on my last Evo with stock clutch if you dont drop the clutch your clutch will last. Unless for some reason you got a defective clutch it should last a long time. Most of the clutches I have heard about in my area that where replaced the owners admitted to multiple 5k or over clutch drops.

My dealer quoted $1900 for a new OEM clutch and install. Yeah, right. My dealer also said if I take care of it, it will last at least 30,000 miles. They said they have a customer with 36K miles on his evo and still going fine.

aaaaahhhhhhhh!!!

thanx for the replies! that sounds a little more like it. i mean i got 286k out of an original factory nissan sentra clucth, that car cost me like $11,000! in my experience cars prefer to be driven hard very day. i pound my toyota 4x4 daily, and it's got 75k and it's like brand new.

i still don't get why i got such high quotes from the dealers??? they all said that mitsu probably would void my warranty if i had a third party do the install!?!?!

i'll just have to wait and see.

Probably only if no mods though. I've got over 5k on mine, and no problems what so ever, I it too
